Is Shedeur Sanders' hype justified, or is Carson Beck the real star we should be talking about?

The race is on for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, and while the leading contenders were expected to be Carson Beck and Shedeur Sanders, it seems evident that there is a clear favorite after the Week 1 performance. Though the Colorado Buffaloes got a shaky win against the North Dakota State Bisons, Shedeur recorded better numbers than Georgia’s Carson Beck, who displayed a mediocre performance against the Clemson Tigers.

Ever since the preseason, the fans have been speculating about who comes out on top for the trophy. With such high talents and athleticism, Shedeur and Carson were expected to lead the race for the Heisman odds but at the moment, the Colorado QB is moving at a far better pace. The Georgia Bulldogs had an amazing win over the Clemson Tigers by a score of 34-3, with Beck being a pivotal part of the victory. Yet, he can’t seem to pass Shedeur when it comes to the ratings.

Only recently it was announced that Carson Beck was awarded the title of the ‘SEC Player of the Week’ title for the impact he had on the game. The QB completed over 23 passes for 278 passing yards along with 2 touchdowns to his name. Undoubtedly, Beck’s performance propelled the Bulldogs to a cakewalk over Clemson, but the numbers that Shedeur recorded in the NDSU game were far higher. Shedeur threw for 445 passing yards and finished with 4 touchdowns, which might be the reason why his name keeps outshining the name of Carson Beck constantly.

As per Aaron Murray, an analyst for ESPN, the best QB performances from the first week of college football came from notable names like Cam Ward, Garrett Nussmeier, and Shedeur Sanders but not from Georgia. His tweet read, “Best Qb performances week 1 CFB  1. Cam Ward – Miami 2. Miller Moss – USC 3. Garrett Nussmeier- LSU 4. Diego Pavia- Vandy 5. Shedeur Sanders- CU  Who got left out?” Carson Beck definitely got left out, and the fans aren’t taking too kindly to it with one user even writing, “Aaron are you serious???” This was just the tip of the iceberg since more and more angry users took to the comments to protest about the absence of Beck from the top-5 list.

The fans react ragingly against Carson Beck’s snub

What’s your perspective on:

Is Shedeur Sanders' hype justified, or is Carson Beck the real star we should be talking about?

Have an interesting take?

The first spark against Beck was lit when he was excluded out of the PFF top-10 Week 1 QBs while Shedeur sat comfortably at the 9th position with a 90.7 rating. The fans have seemingly run out of patience for Beck to constantly be undermined and this time, they stormed the comments to let their words fly loose.

One fan called out Aaron for his list and wrote, “Beck was offensive POW in the SEC against a top defense and not in your top 5? Cmon”
Next, this person pointed out the obvious when they commented, “I mean probably Beck since he was named offensive player of the week 🤷‍♀️”

With renowned analysts like Stephen A. Smith also choosing to pick Shedeur Sanders over other QBs who might not have the same influence, it is becoming harder for players like Carson Beck to get their due recognition. In response to the tweet, this fan also emphasized Beck’s name and said, “Beck.. just named offensive player of the week for the SEC“.
Lastly, this user chimed in with a unique take and claimed that the other QBs faced off against weaker opponents. His comment read, “Beck since he is the only one out of the these five that actually played a legit opponent. 😂”
