A dangerous wildfire has disrupted life in Southern California. The heavy calamity wreaked havoc on thousands of homes and over 3000 acres of land in the Pacific Palisades area. People all across the globe have been sending their wishes and prayers to the victims. Social media walls are flooding with terrifying fire visuals and the collective condolences under them. How could the College football community stay calm amidst the peril? They reached out and extended kindness and warmth to all those suffering. USC Trojans’ head coach Lincoln Riley and a host of veteran analysts fell in line with a greater aggrieving crowd.
Southern California, the sweet home of the Trojans, has been undergoing the most devastating natural unrest in recent memory. The wildfires have burned over 5000 acres of area. The most extensive damage has been caused by the Palisades fire in Pacific Palisades, burning over 3,000 acres of area. The Hurst Fire first broke out at around 10:10 p.m. in the 15900 block of W. Yarnell Street, behind the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, as the Los Angeles Fire Department reported first-hand. The Eaton fire has caused damage in Altadena and Pasadena.
So far, more than 1000 homes, buildings, and businesses have burned. As per the latest report, at least two people have succumbed to death in LA County. These are extremely stressful times for the entire region. Thousands of people have been evacuated to safe locations, and as we write, evacuation operations are underway in all the locations. The family of JJ Reddick, the head coach of the LA Lakers, had to be evacuated yesterday as his house is also in the area seeing damage.

Everybody involved in the safety department is working hard to keep it under control as much as possible. Engulfing the horror and the helplessness, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit noted, ”Just woke up and seeing how devastating the fires are in Southern California-we obviously just left that area calling the Rose Bowl-know so many people that are in harms way-thinking and praying for everyone’s safety in that region,”

Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley chimed in, thanking the fire department and all the 1st responders through a hand-folded emoji. ESPN host Kayce Smith wrote ‘praying for LA ‘ along with some horrific snaps of the accident in her recent IG story. In a follow-up story, the New York-based journalist shared a video of the fire blazing aggressively with an ‘unreal’ broken heart caption. The dark days will hopefully beat a retreat soon. Until then, we are all in this together, praying and yearning for the quickest unravel.
Another ESPN host, Victoria Arlen, shares a bit of her personal connection with the place affected in a heart-wrenching story. She shared a live interview where we can see the homes burn and the dark smoke looms over the horizon. To dub the visuals as heartbreaking would be a massive understatement. It absolutely tears us apart to watch such a catastrophe and yet be unable to do anything.

The government issued evacuation warnings for residents near the 5 Freeway close to Woodley/Balboa to Lahey Street to Zelzah Avenue. The area is widely considered as high casualty prone, and it’s better to flee without a clock delay.

Near the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center, which is located at 10736 Laurel Canyon Boulevard in Pacoima, another evacuation center has been set up. There are a lot of scattered areas in the area, including Northridge Park at 10120 Reseda Boulevard and the Sepulveda Recreation Center at 8825 Kester Avenue. Although it’s tough to leave your own home and belongings and live a refuge life, the camps make sure the lives are safe at least.
Stay strong, folks! The mammoth misery won’t fade away anytime soon. Expect the worst and louder your prayer, please. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued the spine-chilling alert that suggested the condition is “expected to worsen” amid the windstorm.
