Is Brian Kelly the right man for LSU, or is it time for a fresh start?

As the 2024 season is about to end, there are LSU fans bombarding questions about the program, and most importantly, it’s their head coach, Brian Kelly. He got an overall 20-7 since he joined the Tigers club. Right now the only thing he’s aiming for is to stay above .500. Ever since he got popular as the “new championship head coach,” Kelly has been getting so much attention from the media. However, this season is not turning out so well for him. One after another, blunders are taking a toll on Kelly’s reputation. Now one more name added to that list.

In a recent reel shared by CBS Sports on Instagram. The former NFL star and the current CBS analyst Damien Harris took a jab at Kelly by saying, “I’m gonna say and, my opinion, you don’t have to. But I think Brian Kelly has got to go. You mentioned year three is usually the year where he takes his biggest jump, where he has his most success. Well, I look at the last two LSU head coaches who have won national championships: Ed Orgeron and Les Miles. What did they do? They won national championships in their third year at LSU. “

Damien recalled a famous thing about LSU insiders: that a head coach takes a big jump in his third year of coaching career with the program. He gave a few examples in the past that were relevant to his sayings. But when it comes to Brian Kelly, Damien can’t relate it to anymore. He mentioned two legendary coaches who won national championships in the third year of their coaching. Les Miles was one of them who coached LSU from 2001 to 2004 and later from 2005 to 2016. It’s intriguing to note that he led the Tigers in 2007 to win the BCS national championship game, defeating Ohio.

Moreover, he talked about Ed Orgeron, who was with the Tigers from 2016 to 2021, right before Kelly joined. He took LSU to win the 2019 national championship game against Clemson. While Kelly here is failing to do that. Moving forward, the analyst gave a few more examples, which can solidify his comments on how Brian Kelly is not fit for LSU.

Brian Kelly is not the perfect fit for LSU’s culture, says analysts

What’s your perspective on:

Is Brian Kelly the right man for LSU, or is it time for a fresh start?

Have an interesting take?

He went on by pointing out a few blunders by Brian Kelly, which are enough to tag him as the bad guy.

Then I look at Brian Kelly as soon as and this is again, my own opinion, as soon as he signed his contract with LSU. And I saw that thing that he did, where he went to the basketball game and he faked the country accent, and this that in the third, and then I look at the situation that he had with Chris Hilton Junior on the sideline against Florida, where he was just belaboring this guy, and I think he’s not fit for this culture. He’s not fit for Louisiana State University’s football program.”

Damien talked about a few things right there. First, he recalled the episode that happened a long time ago. It was in 2021 when Kelly officially encountered the Tigers fans during a basketball game. Remember how badly he was trolled for flexing his fake Southern accent? After which Damien recalled a recent incident when Kelly was seen ripping into the Tigers wide receiver Chris Hilton after he dropped the ba-l. the analyst is just rejecting Kelly on behalf of LSU fans. the kind of guy he’s is not welcomed by the LSU fanbase.

You got your number one recruit flip. You got other guys; another five-star receiver that you’re talking about might get flipped if you’re going to lose more commits because of this show. It’s about winning right now but you’re not winning right now, and although you are getting your quarterback back next year, you’re losing commits. You’re not doing well in recruiting; LSU hasn’t done great in the portal either by going to get transfers. So, to me, there is no future with Brian Kelly right now.”

Moreover, Damien talked about the recruits who are possibly leaving the Tigers because of Kelly’s mistakes. Although the Tigers made a strong start, they slowly saw their downfall this season. They lost one after another rivalry game against Alabama and Florida. But the main thing that caused him the pain was when a five-star quarterback, Bryce Underwood, flipped from the Tigers to Michigan. With that now, a buzz has got the momentum about Kelly getting fired from his job.
