Home/College Football

It’s surprising to encounter the quick turn of events in CFB. Knowing the fact that getting into the playoffs is the ultimate aim for the teams. Just imagine showcasing a remarkable performance in the season, not losing a single game, and still not getting into the possible playoffs qualifying team. BYU Cougars relate to this very closely. But what exactly went wrong? Even fans can’t make peace with this fact.

Today, CBS Sports took to Instagram to share Bud Elliott’s college football projection, saying, @budelliottcfb’s playoff bracket heading into Week 10 👀 What would you change?” But something was very shocking with the rankings, as the BYU Cougars were not given a ranking for the playoffs. The team has secured 8 consecutive wins in the ongoing tournament, but them not getting a spot has not only sparked controversy among fans but also is a big scorn for the program. This post quickly caught fans’ attention and sparked a series of backlashes, saying, “Disrespect to BYU is absolutely nuts.”

According to the Big 12 rankings given by the CFB analyst Bud Elliott for week 10, following Oregon, Miami, Iowa State, Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, Penn State, Clemson Tigers, Boise State, and Indiana, the Georgia Bulldogs top the list, with Texas A&M at the end. No luck for the Cougars, it seems.

However, unlike Elliotte, other analysts think the BYU Cougars can be a threat to other teams running for the playoffs. After their recent game against the UCF Knights, ESPN’s analyst Kyle Bonagura mentioned that the team might win the Big 12 and also gave them a projection of no. 4 seed in the college football ranking. Well, even fans feel that BYU is not getting enough credit for their performance in the season.

Fans bashing CFB over BYU Cougars

Fans can’t let this fact slide easily that Bud Elliott’s actually chosen all other teams over the Cougars. It seems like stats are no longer in consideration in CFB. This fan made a comparison between the two undefeated teams in the ongoing season, Indiana and BYU, saying, “Indiana over BYU? I don’t think so.” The surprising part is that the BYU Cougars are ranked 9th on the AP Poll representation and have not taken down any week but are not given a single spot in the Big 12. It’s quite delusional. Even this fan comment reflects the same notion, saying, “9th best team in the nation, blown out the big 12, come on, weak sauce.”

Well, there has to be some strong explanation for these buzzard rankings; not only have they missed the BYU Cougars but also excluded some really deserving teams like the Tennessee Volunteers, but it looks like these teams are invisible to the analyst. This fan took a straightforward dig on CFB and Bud Elliott and said, “Like seriously, is this guy ok?” BYU deserves greater recognition than this; the team is standing still with a 5-0 conference record; if that’s not worthy to get projected in playoff rankings, what is? “THATS WHAT IM SAYING BRO, need to put some respect on TN’s name, bro.” The question is whether BYU’s future results can alter their playoff ranking, a position they already deserve.
