Quarterbacks and security blankets are like peanut butter and jelly—one just doesn’t feel complete without the other. For Georgia Bulldogs’ Carson Beck, the loss of his “security blankets” is leaving him scrambling for answers on the field. Pressure is a privilege, and this came in with the Athens senior after his jaw-dropping 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions last season. But it seems like Halloween isn’t over yet for Bulldogs fans.

Leave it to the Cover 3 Podcast folks, including Danny Kanell, to break it down for you. Beck’s recent struggles, especially his shaky performance against the Florida Gators, have insiders like Kanell and many others pointing to a simple yet significant factor: confidence. But what went wrong? Or rather, ask who went where. For Carson Beck, the loss of his “security blankets” in Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey is what Kanell says is missing. “That sort of confidence to be able to throw to those guys I’ve referenced the tight end as a security blanket often like it really is a quarterback’s best friend.”

However, that can’t be the entirety of it. His 11 picks in five games, with 3 of those coming in on Saturday’s 34-20 victory over the Gators, shows a lack of self-belief. Sure, the tight ends, who practically doubled as a safety net, were Beck’s go-to target, and their absence is in visible effect. Also, by the looks of it, Georgia’s #15 doesn’t seem to know where to go with the football. Therefore, Kirby Smart’s trustful player is struggling to rip it with full conviction. For quarterbacks, confidence can mean the difference between threading the needle and throwing a pick.

However, Kanell had one more take that went beyond the on-field plays. It has something to do with face paints. Yep, you heard it right, he said, “Who was the last, if ever, great quarterback that you’ve seen with either Gladiator war paint with Anakin Skywalker war paint on your face or with Batman’s eyes on your face like? It is worrisome for me it is bothersome.” Emphasizing his overall seriousness before the games, directing towards an anomaly that could be yielding issues on the field.

Carson Beck will get a prime chance to hush his doubters in Saturday’s showdown when he opposes Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Can Carson Beck run it back for the Georgia Bulldogs? Former legends say this

Everyone misses their friends, but it looks like Carson Beck took it to his heart. Could his mistakes be the Achilles’ heel in Georgia’s championship hopes? It can be. Against Florida, Carson Beck’s struggles have been glaring. With three picks in the last game and a troubling eight interceptions over his last three outings. It’s becoming clear that Beck is feeling the pressure, pushing himself to fill the shoes of Georgia’s recent passing game. Even as he lacks the receiver depth his predecessor enjoyed.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Carson Beck overcome his 'security blanket' loss, or is Georgia's season already doomed?

Have an interesting take?

Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray weighed in on the matter, noting that Beck is “forcing it,” trying to make plays that simply aren’t there. Murray might be right – Beck’s play looks forced, and it’s costing him and the Bulldogs. It’s like Beck is pressing too hard, attempting high-stakes throws rather than waiting for the right opportunities.

Now, Beck needs to focus on trusting his fundamentals and his teammates. Developing a rhythm with the receivers he has, rather than overcompensating. He is the key to getting him back on track and Georgia back in the win column after all.
