Carson Beck’s transfer to Miami was already one of the biggest transfer moves of the offseason. Now throw in a high-profile romance, and suddenly, the decision became the subject of social media speculation. After his 12 interceptions with the Georgia Bulldogs, Carson opted to play a sixth season rather than declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. This prompted many to immediately point to his relationship with Miami Hurricanes basketball player Hanna Cavinder, which caught the eye in August, as a driving force. The timing was too perfect — one day after entering the transfer portal, Carson committed to the Hurricanes. Coincidence? Some weren’t convinced. But as Cavinder herself has now made clear, the choice had nothing to do with her.
As the noise swirled, Carson’s sister, Kylie Beck, was more focused on celebrating than feeding into the rumors. When the famous Cavinder posted a sleek Instagram photo dump captioned “smooth sailing” — featuring Carson with Cavinder’s #15 Miami gear, her courtside at Canes hoops games, and a general sun-kissed South Florida aesthetic — Kylie couldn’t hold back her excitement. “Perfect & precious 🫶🏻,” she commented, sealing the approval with a heartwarming stamp. The Beck family seems to be all-in on Miami, and that sentiment extended to social media.
Even with Kylie showing full support, the narrative around Carson Beck’s transfer kept circling back to Cavinder. The Hurricanes basketball standout finally addressed the speculation when ESPN’s Christine Williamson visited the Miami campus and sat down with the Cavinder twins. Without hesitation, Hannah Cavinder put the rumors to rest. “Honestly, I was not involved at all,” she said. “I know that a lot of people probably think that. But no, I was not involved at all. It was honestly what was the best decision for him and where he was gonna fit and be able to be successful.” It was as definitive as it gets — Cavinder made it clear that Carson’s move was about football, not their relationship.

That didn’t mean she wasn’t thrilled about it. In fact, Cavinder was quick to highlight just how much she loves Miami and how perfect the fit was for Carson Beck. “Obviously, the University of Miami is an amazing campus, and I think it was the best decision for him,” she said. “I think he’s gonna love the university. Obviously, I love Miami, so I will stay here. My family’s in Fort Lauderdale, but yeah, I’m super excited for him and to be able to watch him play.” The move may not have been about her, but it’s hard to ignore how naturally everything is falling into place.
Meanwhile, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal is just as eager to see what his new QB1 brings to the Canes. The Dawgs transfer remains to hold his UCL injury in the SEC Championship against Texas, but Cristobal is banking on Carson’s experience and arm talent to elevate the Hurricanes in 2025. With a full offseason to rehab and integrate into Miami’s offense, the QB has a chance to make a major impact in his final collegiate season. As for the skeptics still tying Carson’s transfer to his personal life, the quarterback doesn’t seem fazed. Why? ‘Cause he’s got a bigger fish to fry…
Mario Cristobal on Carson Beck’s recovery & why he’s the perfect fit for Miami
Coach Cristobal gave an update on CFB’s highest-earner player’s injury, and it sounds like things are treading in the right direction. While Carson Beck isn’t quite ready to launch passes just yet, Cristobal assured fans that the recovery process is moving along. “He’s doing well, he’s running really fast,” Cristobal shared on ESPN. “He’s not throwing the ball yet, but he’s very close to doing so. He should be throwing soon, maybe in a couple of weeks or so.”

Beyond his rehab, Cristobal also shed light on why Miami went after Carson in the first place. According to the Hurricanes’ head coach, the former Georgia standout brings a strong arm, pinpoint accuracy, and the kind of leadership that elevates an entire team — qualities that also drew Miami to Cam Ward before.
“(We wanted Beck for) a lot of the reasons why we liked Cam (Ward) — besides the accuracy and the strong arm, and the ability to just elevate a football team, the guy is just poised to have a great season with the right protection, the right scheme,” Cristobal explained, as for how he fits into Miami’s offensive blueprint.
“Our scheme fits him,” Cristobal emphasized. “It’s designed to be really powerful and strong upfront, to get the ball to the playmakers outside, with great security detail with a diverse passing game at his disposal. So he fits us perfectly.”
