In retrospect, it appears to have been an obvious decision for one of the best football players to advance his career with the Miami Hurricanes. But could Carson Beck have had a covert motive for the transfer? Well, as per fans, the QB’s relationship with the standout Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball player, Hanna Cavinder, may have influenced his decision. While others even hinted at a bit of family drama over it, don’t worry! Beck’s mom and sister are here to clear the air. But before we get to the meat of the story…

For the unversed: On December 28, the former Georgia quarterback had announced his plans to enter the NFL draft, just five days after suffering a heartbreaking season-ending UCL injury vs the Texas Longhorns. He could’ve returned for a sixth season, but instead announced the news in a now-deleted Instagram post. However, come January 9, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the 23-year-old plans to enter the NCAA Transfer portal, and that “Miami looms as the favorite to land Carson Beck”. 

In hindsight, the decision, according to many NFL scouts is a right one. While the QB was expected to get picked up in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, many insiders opined that draft outlook didn’t look that great—further plummeting after the injury. Calling the decision a “no-brainer” one scouting source said as per CBS, “It was not a good year for him, and his stock dipped (even before the injury).” 

“The injury muddied everything up. With NIL, he can make money and gain more experience,” another person reportedly said. So what did Beck do? He walked the same path as Cam Ward—the Miami QB had declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, but used his remaining eligibility to transfer to Miami, in a bid to improve his draft stock and utilize NIL. Ward currently has a $2 million NIL value (On3). Safe to say, Beck will also heavily benefit from the Name, Image, Likeness deal. But let’s talk about that later as…

Beck’s sister, Kylie, appears to have silenced the voices who tied her brother’s move to Cavinder, and subsequently indicating a feud in the family. She posted a collage of Carson and Hanna on Instagram with the remark, “15 15 15”. Carson will wear number 15 with the Canes… just like Hanna does. It appears, far from being heartbroken, she may actually be fond of the couple! Notably, this is not the first time that Kylie has cleared the air about her relationship with Hanna.

In December last year, after Hanna had posted photos of herself in a bikini on Instagram, Kylie had commented, “You are perfection,” to which Hanna responded, “U R”. 

Having said that, she has been hyping up Carson’s move to the Canes as well. In an Instagram story, Carson’s sister said, “I guess we can say it’s all about the U🙌.” She went on to encourage him with another story, writing, “Go be great!!” while holding up heart signals. She also posted a picture of Beck being hugged by his mother and herself, captioning it, “Sky is the limit for you!! Here’s to a new beginnings and a new era.”

Like his sister, Beck’s mother conveyed nothing but joy at his decision. She posted an Instagram story with the caption, “Soooo proud of YOU! Cheering you on always and forever!” This shows that, regardless of the rationale behind the decision, his family always wants him to experience success wherever he goes.

On a separate note, Beck is reported to receive a $4 million NIL deal package from Miami in 2025, as per CBS Sports, making him among the highest-paid players in college football, and more than what he would’ve received had he joined the NFL. The price, though, is still reportedly lesser than what he had asked for.
