On August 22, RJ Young appeared on 680 The Fan in Atlanta to talk about the reason behind Kirby Smart’s Georgia at No. 2. He mentioned that the ranking process included many factors, such as studying rosters, 2024 recruiting classes, transfer portal additions and attrition, changes in philosophy, changes in athletic department administration, changes in coaches, and so on. The most intriguing fact is that he decided on who he thinks has the best opportunity to win the national championship in week one.

Additionally, he stated,” I see four preseason AP All-Americans from Ohio State, six total, that’s more than Georgia. I see a quarterback that has won a conference Championship at a power five program that is not Carson Beck that is Will Howard,”. Moreover, on describing the ‘major flaw’ of Georgia, he added, “If there is one weakness on this Georgia team, it’s at a position that has been marked as a strength in the Kirby Smart era: defensive tackle.” Although Georgia has Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson, their performance was not up to the mark last year. Therefore, it is pretty clear that the rank can change, but for now, Ohio State has taken the position of No.1. What about the other teams? Take a look at that.

The Buckeyes’ losing streak against Michigan extends to three years, and they haven’t won a Big Ten title in four years. However, this year Ryan Day, the head coach of Ohio State, managed to land a talented group of transfers including quarterback Will Howard, running back Quinshon Judkins, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, defensive back Caleb Downs, and so on. Thus, this team is expected to be able to make it to the playoffs.

Conversely, Texas is considered at No.3 position in the Ultimate 134 College Football Ranking. It is because Texas is the newest member of the SEC. However, the team is preparing at its best to win the national championship in the 2024 season.
