Carson Beck didn’t have the best of his 2024 season at Bulldogs. It was a season that was largely marred by injuries, offensive struggles, and the offensive corps failing to provide enough to the ace QB. So it was natural when Miami came knocking; he packed his bags and left to achieve what he couldn’t in Georgia. The move had its own potential repercussions.
First was the furor within the Dawg supporters about losing their QB. This was also because he was to join the NFL and took a 180-degree turn to land in Miami. The Dawg nation was naturally in shock. Then came the worries about the player not being fully fit, so much so that concerns loomed large about his fitness going into the spring camp. Beck has constantly faced the pressure of debacles in his 2024 season and his injuries. However, one of his teammates at Georgia dismissed the concerns, and here’s why.
Tate Ratledge, the Georgia interior offensive lineman speaking in the NFL combine, answered if the negative media attention is fair for Beck or not. “He does seem a bit misunderstood, maybe; Carson’s a great kid. I mean, obviously Carson’s one of my best friends since I’ve been in Georgia; we lived with each other for three years, so me and him obviously have a different relationship. So. I knew how to approach Carson at different times and knew how the way I talked to him would affect him at that time. So, that was kind of my goal throughout the season to keep him as level-headed as possible. Again, Carson’s a great kid and very misunderstood.” The question that now comes is, is Beck really quite misunderstood on various fronts?

Well, a large part of it is true. I mean, this is a guy who had an incredible 2023 season when he produced a 72.4% pass completion rate for 3,941 yards. This is also the guy who is unfairly blamed for Georgia’s debacles in the 2024 season. Sure, he had some injury concerns throughout the season, but Georgia wasn’t exactly producing world-class offense.

Part of the reason why Georgia’s offense failed to produce moments in which Beck needed them the most was due to their OC, Mike Bobo. In the words of Paul Finebaun, “You can go down the street and a guy’s waiting for a bus, you go into a food court at a mall, and you can find somebody better than Mike Bobo.”
Finebaum also stressed why Mike Bobo’s schemes led to the failure of the Bulldogs to produce on an elite level. A season that was marred by drops. A leaky offensive line, and most of all, failing to protect Beck on crucial occasions. In these circumstances, it will feel right for anyone to switch camps. And try to achieve glory somewhere else, as Beck did in Miami. So, will he achieve at Miami what he came for?

Carson Beck’s glory hunt at Miami at a standstill?
Whatever the case with Beck at Georgia, there were some problems still that can be solely attributed to Beck. For instance, his questionable in-game decisions, late-game mistakes, and failure to consistently turn up trumps. And while the decision to join Mario Cristobal’s camp has its added benefits. Like the $4 million pay bump and his union with his girlfriend, who plays basketball for Miami. Still, there are concerns about Cristobal’s 2025 season.
Miami did have the number one scoring offense in the country and improved quite well to a 10-3 record. As opposed to their 2023 season. Still, there were some disappointments since they couldn’t even qualify for the playoffs. While having the best QB in the nation, Cam Ward, on their roster. Furthermore, there are other concerns, like the lack of experienced talent on the roster. If Cristobal can wade through these concerns, Beck has a chance at glory in Miami.
