The Georgia Bulldogs pulled off a nail-biting 22-19 overtime win against the Texas Longhorns in the SEC championship game and solidified their No. 2 seed spot in the college football playoff. With a well-deserved bye in the first round, the team will have enough time to rejuvenate themselves for a playoff run. What does bye mean for them? As Kirby Smart said, “It means rest for a team that Greg Sankey and his staff sent on the road all year long!” However, amidst the cheers of the celebration, Georgia faces some major issues over their QB1. Georgia fans, hold onto your hats—Carson Beck might be out for the upcoming Sugar Bowl.

Zack Klein reports that Beck’s SEC championship injury turned out to be a UCL issue, and the whispers are that he’s done for this game. There is no official MRI yet, but let’s keep it real; he didn’t return after getting hurt, so currently, everything is hinting at his absence from the Sugar Bowl.

Beck got injured right before halftime of the conference championship game when he went down and didn’t return for the rest of the game. He returned for one play after backup quarterback Gunner Stockton’s helmet was knocked off, handing the football off to Trevor Etienne. This whole thing has raised concerns, especially with the current buzz suggesting that Beck may be dealing with a UCL injury in his right elbow. According to On3 college football insider Pete Nakos, Beck is asking for a second opinion on the injury, while Zack Klein has shared that the quarterback could miss the Sugar Bowl.

Head coach Kirby Smart is still waiting for the MRI results to be more clear about the QB situation. “We just had a team meeting. He was there, but we don’t know much more than we knew last night. We should be finding out something soon,” Smart added. Meanwhile, let’s look at how fans are reacting to this news.

Georgia fans seem excited to watch the Sugar Bowl without Carson beck

You won’t see this coming, but a fan wrote, “Advantage Georgia.” Seriously? The guy has completed 3485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions and is currently holding a 12th spot with 80.9 QBR. Moreover, another fan wrote, “They probably do better now.” Meanwhile, before Beck left the game, he had gone 7 for 13 for 56 yards. Wait a minute, guys. If Beck can’t show up for the Sugar Bowl, his backup, Stockton, who has thrown 71 yards and an interception against Texas, will take his place.

One more fan commented, “They just upgraded.” Well, following their next challenge coming on January 1, the Bulldogs are likely to face one of the two teams, Indiana or Notre Dame, in the Sugar Bowl. Georgia fans might witness a game without their best quarterback.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Georgia better off without Carson Beck, or is his absence a major setback?

One more fan pointed out, “All of a sudden, Georgia is a HEAVY favorite.” It looks like these angry fans are still not over Carson Beck’s shaky performance against Ole Miss. The QB went for 20 of 31 for 186 yards with an interception and also fumbled the ba*ll in the final moments of the game. The series of interceptions also didn’t help his case.

Beck did not have a great game against Texas before he went out. Against a quality secondary of the Longhorns, Beck failed to get the passing game going. It didn’t help that his backup immediately led the Bulldogs to a touchdown drive. More than anything, Stockton’s presence got the entire offense going. That type of energy is missing when a stoic Beck is leading the offense.

Moving forward, lastly, a fan said, “Georgia just gained like a 10% chance on winning that game.” Although Stockton had limited play time in the conference game, he was the one who made them win the SEC title. These fans are hoping to see him create the same magic.
