Is Carson Beck really to blame for Georgia's struggles, or is there more to the story?

At halftime in the game between Alabama and Georgia, it looked like Kalen DeBoer had made an example out of Kirby Smart’s boys. Leading 30-7 going into the 3rd quarter, everything seemed to have gone to plan. The offense outclassed Georgia in both run and pass games, while the defense was making a mockery out of Heisman contender Carson Beck. And how the tables turned. Some conservative decisions, Alabama defense failing to stop Georgia on 4th downs, and we finally had what was promised. 2:40 left in the 4th quarter, the Bulldogs led 34-33. Ryan Williams showed up again and caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Milrone with only 2:18 minutes left in the game. Carson Beck’s night finished how it started, with an interception. In between, the Bulldogs’ QB looked in control, but analysts were still disappointed with his overall performance.

Beck threw two interceptions in the first half; however, he bounced back and threw three touchdown passes in the second half and ended with 439 passing yards. Shannon Sharpe, the former NFL player, had a conversation on Nightcap’s Youtube channel where he discussed Beck’s performance and made a comparison to Colorado Buffaloes’ quarterback Shedeur Sanders: “I think he’s good. I think if Shedeur Sanders was in Georgia, they wouldn’t lose a game. That’d be. It’s hard to evaluate a guy when he’s surrounded by such great talent, and I think that was the hardest thing, one of the hardest evaluations.” According to Sharpe, he has everything it takes to succeed, but unfortunately, he is not using his full potential. The comparison highlights Carson Beck’s weakness, but at the same time, he sheds light on Sanders’s strong skills.

Sharpe is not the only one who criticized Beck’s performance; Aaron Torres, host of FOX Sports Radio, also took a dig at the quarterback’s performance and stated, “Carson Beck should be thankful that Dylan Raiola decommitted and ended up at Nebraska. Because this would be the moment he got benched and might never get his job back.”

Torres’ comments highlight the competitive nature of college football. The game was hyped as a battle between Jalen Milroe and Carson Beck. While the score was still closer than what DeBoer would have liked, no one would have a doubt who among the two QBs had a better game.

Alabama Crimson Tide secures victory, maintains dominance

Since Alabama’s players stepped on the field, their intentions were clear: to dominate in front of a packed Bryant-Denny Stadium. Their quarterback, Jalen Milroe, took the charge and frankly, just made it so easy. It didn’t look like he was playing the no. 2 team in college football. Passing? Running? Reading the defense? Milroe was on fire. Back-to-back-to-back TDs, and the score was 21-0 at one point.

Georgia came back with a touchdown of their own, but in between, the offense did everything that Kirby Smart didn’t want them to do. 3rd and long, interceptions, three-and-out, safety: it seemed like the Bulldogs didn’t use even a single day of their bye-week to study their opponents. All that changed in the second half. Alabama’s defense’ failure to stop Georgia on 4th downs didn’t help the home team.

However, the Bama kept their nerve and bounced back with a 75-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Milroe to Ryan Williams, which was followed by another interception from Carson Beck, which sealed Alabama’s fourth victory. Kalen DeBoer’s boys are up against Vanderbilt Commodores (2-2) next, while the Bulldogs will face Auburn (2-3).
