Who was the sixth-highest passer in the history of the Georgia Bulldogs? Carson Beck. Who gave Kirby Smart and Co. the biggest shock in 2025? Again, Carson Beck.

The Bulldogs lived by the notion that their quarterback would be committing for the 2025 NFL Draft. But Beck pulled the reverse gear. Not only did he decide to give himself another year in college. But he also decided not to return to his old home. Beck is now committed to Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes. While he is yet to play his first game in Miami, Beck’s career-threatening injury keeps replaying in fans’ memories. That’s when the quarterback came up with a clarity on what exactly he felt at that moment. Meanwhile, now that Beck is about to start a new chapter, does he hold bitter feelings about Georgia?

December 7, 2024, is the date that the Bulldogs fans will remember for the longest of times, for its bittersweet reasons. Smart’s boys came home with a 19-22 victory, winning the SEC Championship, beating Steve Sarkisian’s Texas. But at the same time, Beck’s season was cut short when he sustained an injury to his right elbow on the final play before halftime. So, that broke his dreams of committing to the NFL Draft. While he was replaced by Gunner Stockton until the final play in overtime, Stockton’s helmet came off. That’s what forced Beck to be back onto the field for a game-winning handoff. But what happened exactly at the moment when he had taken the hit?

On April 25, Beck appeared on the Built 4 More podcast. The host then came up with the question that most fans are seeking closure for. He asked, “Can you talk about halftime of that game laying on the field after you had decided to come back? And just kind of what was going through your head knowing that you had just sustained a pretty serious injury to your throwing arm?” Turns out that Beck could not stop the moment to take the better of him. The quarterback calmly replied, “Yeah. No, I mean that’s a lot. I don’t even think I’ve really thought about it since it’s happened until this moment in time. But feel like that whole day was just a blur in the first place.” That’s how shocking the blow was for Beck as well as it was for the fans.

The now Miami signal-caller continued, “Like I really don’t even remember that day leading up to it. But man, that first quarter, the first time we get the ball, we go three and out. We do we try to like QB sneak when on like third and inches and a guy jumps over the line and lands on top of me.” The only reaction that came out at the moment was “Oh, gosh!” Well, fans must be remembering what happened next after Beck got bogged down by the injury.

More than half a dozen staff members swarmed him on the field after the play as he lay on his side on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium gridiron. Beck was seen with ice on his elbow on the telecast during the third quarter. But the dark times are finally over, and the quarterback is up for a fresh start. However, look how highly Beck feels for his former team.

What made Carson Beck fall for Georgia?

The next important question that the quarterback faced on the podcast was, “Why did you choose to go to Georgia?” Well, it’s an old story. That’s because it has been almost five years since Beck committed to the Bulldogs in 2020. But Georgia fans still want to hear what made him make Athens his home. Beck confessed, “I fell in love with coach, Shamari [Earls]. I fell in love with the culture that he was building. They had just come off of that run where they went to the national championship.” Plus, the connection gained Beck’s confidence that he would always have a team rooting for him, no matter what.

As he said, “That brotherhood and the connection that those guys had built. And it was something that I wanted to be a part of.” Turns out that Beck’s luck in getting supportive head coaches is good. After all, Cristobal should have been stressed now that he is carrying the weight of an injured quarterback on his shoulders. Surprisingly, the head coach is all chilled out and feels confident about his new haul. In an interview, he said, “I don’t know. I know he’s throwing some other things, you know, he’s doing those other rehab contraptions, those balls or whatnot, and it’s right there. I mean, we feel great about it. He’s taking part, not only in walkthrough, but also in team.” And guess what?

It was no blind faith in Mario Cristobal’s path. On April 11, National College Football Reporter for CBS Sports, Brandon Marcello, dropped the much-awaited update. He tweeted, “Miami QB Carson Beck will begin throwing footballs Monday, coach Mario Cristobal told @CBSSports/@247Sports. The Georgia transfer underwent elbow surgery in December.” But fans are already raising the expectations with the narrative, ‘Can Beck be Cam Ward 2.0?’ Maybe. Maybe not. After all, the Hurricanes know that had his teammates at Georgia last season not dropped the ball as often, Beck might be a first-round pick this year alongside Ward. Miami’s ready to soar—and Beck’s got the wings.
