Is Carson Beck really to blame, or are fans overreacting to the SEC data?

“He reminds me of Eli Manning”. That’s something the analyst Daniel Jeremiah had noted on his counting report for Carson Beck. Now why is that? Much like Manning, Beck excels when it comes to playing from the tight zones on the field and the pockets. He has this unnatural ability to filter through defenders and rush the ball. Jeremiah had even mentioned this in his report when he noted, “He can power the ball into tight windows.” That ain’t all. Beck knows when to anticipate a throw and utilizes solid ball placements to secure TDs. Heck, he led Georgia to a 13-win run as their leading QB.

But then, why are fans calling him mid? PFF College took to X on August 22nd to share a new list of SEC Quarterback Rankings. As per PFF, Beck ranks in the No.1 spot on the list. Quinn Ewers and Jaxson Dart follow him on 2nd and 3rd spots, respectively. It’s quite understandable why Beck is on top. If we look at the 2023 season stats, the kid pulled in 24 TDs and around 3900+ yards. He also managed to place the third on the FBS because of his recorded yards. His best performance was against the Wildcats, where he landed 4 TDs. The game ended with the Bulldogs grabbing the win at 51-13. This ain’t even it. Even against Auburn, Beck managed to carry the team to a come-from-behind victory. After seeing the list by PFF, a fan took to X to write, “Am I crazy or is Carson Beck mid at best…?” This kind of makes no sense because if we look at stats alone, Beck is a solid player and deserves his spot on the top 5 list.

Even CBS Sports Chip Patterson had noted, “Beck’s first full season as a starter was a roaring success.” Quite true, as Beck managed to rank top 5 on the national level for his passing yards. Also, the kid already has around a 72% completion rate and is projected to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL draft. This is what makes the entire hate situation perplexing. Even back on July 9th we saw Beck getting dragged through the mud just because news of him dating an influencer was out in X by MLFootball. Fans were quick to point out that Beck was going to get distracted during the 2024 season and would probably cause his team to lose. After the list PFF published, we saw a similar reaction from fans.

Is the Carson Beck hate train worth it?

One fan went on to criticize the entire list made by PFF. “This is one of the worst lists I’ve ever seen,” they noted. This is a valid take. Putting Kalen Milroe in the 4th spot makes no sense. Heck, the list does not even have Sheduer Sanders on it. Following the same sentiment, a fan noted, “Carson beck over Evers is wild.” This could be a controversial opinion. There’s no doubt that Texas’ mullet king is a solid player. Ewers had managed to pull in 22 TDs and 3400+ yards last year. However, if this makes him better than Beck or not, we will find out this year.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Carson Beck really to blame, or are fans overreacting to the SEC data?

Have an interesting take?

One more fan kept it quite simple. “Beck #1,” they wrote along with 2 laughing emojis. This was a sarcastic take pointing towards the fact that Beck should not be on the top of the list. Finally, one fan, while calling out Beck’s skills, still found a way to praise him. “Carson Beck mid, but really good quarterbacks in the conference this year,” they wrote on X. As long as X exists, we will always see fans drag some college football stars through the mud. However, while that continues, we should rather look forward to how the Bulldogs are going to do this year.
