Is Sherrone Moore the right man to revive Michigan's football legacy after this disastrous season?

From the 2023 national champs to “Michigan man is dead,” it has been quite the journey for the Wolverines. And this fall from grace HAS TO BE STUDIED. When Jim Harbaugh handed this team over to Sherrone Moore, people thought that Moore was getting a solid foundation from which to start. Boy, oh boy, the Wolverine fans were wrong this time. This 2024 season was a disaster for Sherrone Moore, and it is not only because of his roster issues and QB dilemma; we just can’t look past the cheating allegations and the NCAA investigations too. Their chances of making it to the playoffs also looked quite bleak. But after losing to the Ducks, their new 5-4 record pretty much seals their fate that Moore and Co. ain’t making it.

The entire game was a disaster. Dan Lanning and the Ducks managed to grab a touchdown in the first quarter of the game, and while the Wolverines did close the lead, the 2nd quarter had the Ducks pulling in 3 total touchdowns to bring the score to 28-10. Coming back from this is next to impossible, but Moore and Co. tried.

Peyton O’Leary managed to grab a 6-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter and pushed the score to 17-28. Still off 11 points with little to no time left on the clock. Listen, fans might say that keeping Harbaugh on board would’ve been the best shot at keeping the legacy alive at Michigan, but you also gotta keep in mind that they didn’t win the National Cup just because they were good.

Yes, JJ McCarthy was a phenomenal player, but it isn’t enough. Check the Wolverines’ track record; in 2020 the team was garbage, 2021 and 2022 were the years of a comeback with Harbaugh and his infamous run-game tactic and then 2023 was the national cup (that they won after cheating). Wild! 2024 was a chance to keep up the pace and follow through with their dominance last season. However, Moore somehow managed to mess it up.

The team has continuously kept cycling between Davis Warren and Alex Orji as their starting quarterback. It felt as if Moore had zero clue about whom to stick with. Sometimes Orji shined and sometimes Warren made good plays, but it was never enough. Well, check their games against the Illini and the Huskies. A team like Wolverines didn’t even crack the 10-point mark against Illinois and the Huskies came back for revenge and won with 27-17 on the board. See, the only thing left now is focusing on the 2025 roster.

Can Sherrone Moore bring back the flame next year?

31-17 going into the 4th quarter, yeah, the Michigan man is dead. With this loss marking the team’s 4th, the playoff is off the table. He-k even making it to the Bowl games is Hail Mary. So what to do now? See, Moore has always been a good coordinator. He helped the team bounce back during the 2021 and 2022 eras, but as a coach? Yeah, no.

If he doesn’t end up getting fired, the only thing he can do is focus on building a massive roster for the 2025 season. See, the recruitment cycle is almost about to end and this is Moore’s shot at making a name for himself. There has been some progress already.

Back on November 1st, we saw how Kirby Smart and Georgia were trying desperately to keep a commitment to the team. 4-star CB Shamari Earls has managed to ruffle some feathers. He was initially committed to the Bulldogs, and still, there was a massive chance of him flipping over to the Wolverines. And well, that did happen. Earls is now committed to Michigan, and this is a massive win for the recruitment staff. Dude is marked as the No.9 CB nationally and would end up being one of the players who could shine next year. Let’s see where things go from here, huh?
