Is Billy Napier's time running out as Gators' HC with Cam Ward looming large?

Is it just us or does Billy Napier just love himself for some controversy? Ever since that entire Jaden Rashada lawsuit went down, nothing has been going as planned for Napier. Following that entire scene, one of his players (Cormani McClain) even got dragged through the mud back in July because of his discipline issues and rumors surrounding him getting removed from the roster. And if all of that wasn’t enough, Napier went ahead and called for a timeout after a timeout? Come on coach, you are better than this.

Yes, folks, The Beast M.B.A. took to X on September 1st to let us know, “Wow….The Gators pull a “Butch Davis” and call a time-out after a timeout.” If you don’t know what the “Butch Davis” thing is. Well, back when Davis was the HC for the Browns, he pulled a similar stunt, and that caused the public to pelt the field with bottles. This happened in the 2nd quarter as the Hurricanes led the charge over the Gators at 17-3 all because of the QB Cam Ward. Ward is the main threat to Napier’s entire lineup. The kid is a 2-way star who knows how to make plays and even Napier had acknowledged this. “I think the thing about him is that he has experience,” Napier had noted back in an interview. It’s the 3rd quarter and Ward has already managed to lock in 2 TDs and 1 interception while playing 22-29 for around 296 yards.

No matter how many time-outs Napier calls, it’s over for the Gators. The Hurricanes are already leading at 37 and if Napier wants to win, then he will need a miracle. Sometimes, it genuinely feels bad. The HC honestly has not been dealt the right cards. Even a few hours before the game started, fans had spotted Cormani McClain on the field flexing. This started another round of people questioning Napier and his ability to make a proper decision for the team. And if all of that wasn’t enough, now we find him in another pickle as his starting QB plans on leaving the team for good.

Billy Napier lost the season opener and is going to lose his QB

Just a few hours ago, we found on X that Gators QB DJ Lagway has hit the transfer portal. The senior was marked as the No.3 player in the entire class of 2024 and has a completion rate of around 72%. Losing him would be a major blow to Napier and his roster. We are already seeing him struggle during the season opener and Lagway was marked to bring a change of pace for the team. However, it will all fall apart.

Napier had decided that 2 QBs, Graham Mertz and Lagway, would lead his team. With Lagway leaving soon, the entire pressure would fall on Mertz, and it’s doubtful he could do anything about it. During the game against Miami, Mertz only managed to sneak in 1 interception and rush for around 91 yards. If this is the case, then the team has no chance of surviving against the Bulldogs and Longhorns later down on their schedule. Let’s hope Napier figures something out, cause the Gators’ future is at risk here.
