Carson Beck‘s bold Miami move takes him on a journey filled with a sky-high reward and a significant risk. His ability to move on from the Georgia ghosts and thrive under pressure determined his future with the Canes. Miami HC Mario Cristobal has been extremely patient with the healing process of his throwing arm injury as the spring game kicks in. His limited availability sparked doubts, but Cristobal amplifies his confidence, saying he is way ahead of his schedule to make a full-fledged return. But there is a fine line between the belief and the reality of development. Cristobal isn’t foreign to that, and neither is his receiver, CJ Daniels. But both of them sound confident that the ‘U’ is back.
There is no doubt that Beck is talented, leading the Dawgs to an unprecedented 13-1 back in 2023. He bagged an all-SEC Second team honors after finishing third nationally in passing yards (3,941). However, in 2024, the numbers took a sharp dip. Especially, Beck’s doubled interception count – from 6 to 12 – was a real curve! But it’s not just him flowing under the radar. The entire Georgia offense underperformed in 2024. Their wide receiver room simply lacked production with the costly departure of Ladd McConkey, Brock Bowers, etc. Now the question is: Will things turn out better at Miami?
Miami insider Danny Enriquez asked CJ Daniels on the Storm Sessions podcast if he has seen the trend of Miami offense and Carson Beck’s past to throw to Ladd during his Georgia games. “Yeah, for sure, like it was it was something like – if you didn’t see it – like what you were doing!? Like, you feel what I’m saying? So, I definitely seen the things that they did in the past, especially Cam over this past year.” So, the second-year WR smoked confidence while quelling the doubt of the host.

Daniels is back for his second and final year with the Canes. He has been a live witness to how Miami’s ablaze offense made things a lot easier for Cam Ward last season. The last quarterback before Cam to throw at least 300 yards and three touchdowns in a season opener was Ken Dorsey in 2001. That was their natty-winning season. So, you can read between the lines. All credit goes to the supremely talented receiver corps! Cam throwing some deep, impressive passes to Xavier Restrepo still remains a treat to the eyes for the Miami fans. Now, it’s time for Daniels and other youngsters to provide the same safety net to Beck.
“He had an incredible season, man. I just can’t wait to pick up where they left off, man. So I think, you know, that’s why we’re here, that’s why we got those pieces to finish the job”, Daniels hinted at the expectation from Beck and the entire Miami offense going forward. Their offensive coordinator, Shannon Dawson, sang the same sentiment when it came to the new Miami poster boy to count on.

Carson Beck gains the vote of confidence from OC Shannon Dawson
Coach Cristobal has already compared Beck to his Heisman contender QB, Cam Ward, in a recent projection. He deems the former UGA signal caller as a perfect fit to the Miami offensive style. He kept batting for him during the spring doldrums. The QB had a season-ending UCL injury, and the surgery is supposed to take time to heal. So, Beck not being able to take part in the practices fully is never a jolt to coach Cristobal.
Rather, he appreciates how Beck utilizes the time to get to know the team better, developing bonds, influencing the locker rooms, and getting seasoned with the culture. He is spending his time studying the films as well. And OC Dawson is taking none of them for granted.

“His football IQ is really high. He’s played a lot of football. So, when you talk to him about plays or the regurgitation of plays and in the meeting room, you can tell he’s played a lot of football and also that his personality comes out over time.” Dawson sang praise to the UM’s $4.5 million asset during his interaction on a podcast. While there was no green light from Cristobal on whether or not Beck will show up at the last week of the spring game, he is taking over the Miami QB room pretty soon. Put out feelers, but never say never!
