While the 2024 college football season races toward the finish line and the Heisman buzz reaches a fever pitch, one finalist just flipped the script in a big way. Sure, everyone’s chatting about Shedeur Sanders—will he end up with the Raiders? The Cowboys? Maybe even the Giants? But while Sanders’ future has us all guessing, Cam Ward decided to take control of the narrative and drop a headline-grabbing bombshell of his own. Forget subtle hints—this was more like a missile aimed straight at the NFL’s attention span. Ward’s message? Catch up or get left behind.

Speaking of bold moves, Ward made it clear he’s got his sights set on a team that knows how to play tough, stay talented, and win with heart. But here’s the catch: the NFL draft doesn’t always favor dream scenarios. Teams with the worst records get first dibs, and Ward knows the drill. Still, the New York Giants, with their $7.3 billion legacy, seem to have snagged his attention. And he’s not holding back. On December 15, Yahoo Sports lit up X with Ward’s now-viral statement: “If Joe Schoen wants to come get me, he knows best.” That’s not just confidence—that’s an open invitation to the Giants’ GM. With Shedeur Sanders reportedly leaning toward the Raiders, Ward’s calculated move could pave the way for a smoother path to New York.

The Giants are having a rough year, sitting at a dismal 2-11. This means they’ll probably have a high draft pick, maybe even one of the top ones. Now, Cam Ward, the Heisman finalist who had a monster season—293 completions out of 435 attempts, 4123 yards, 36 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions—is likely to be a top NFL draft pick. And the fact that he still wants to play for them shows he believes in the Giants, even though they’re not exactly winning games right now.

Also, no other team can be more desperate than the New York Giants to fill up their quarterback position. A few weeks back, they released Daniel Jones and are now struggling between Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito this season. Now Cam Ward’s statement can be a moment of relaxation for the team.

Well, there is more to this story, though. And Cam Ward is not the only one eyeing the Giants. Even the team has shown a strong interest in bringing him aboard. Word on the street is the Giants are bringing in Hurricanes OC Shannon Dawson. And they’re serious about making sure Cam Ward’s NFL career takes off quickly. But will it still be the same if Shedeur Sanders joins the race again?

A new stress lingering Cam Ward

What’s your perspective on:

With a 2-11 record, is Cam Ward's interest in the Giants a bold move or blind faith?

Have an interesting take?

With Cam Ward’s recent revelation, one thing is quite evident: he sees the New York Giants as his possible NFL team next year. Moreover, with all the Raiders rumors surrounding Shedeur Sanders, Ward’s path toward them also seems quite easy. But it looks like that’s not the case. Shedeur Sanders has been rumored to be ‘pulling an Eli’ next year in the NFL Draft. This means he might refuse to play for certain teams, just like Eli Manning did. And things got real when the NFL Rookie Watch X account dropped a bombshell. “There is reportedly a “high likelihood” Sanders would refuse to play if he was drafted by either the Giants or Browns,” they posted.

However, Shedeur Sanders was unaware of the situation, and Coach Prime, acting responsibly, responded to the false rumors by saying, “A lie don’t care who tells it. Please stop trying to become relevant by misrepresenting my son. God bless you.” Now Deion Sanders has finally shut down those rumors about Shedeur maybe not wanting to play for the Giants. But with that, he threw a curveball. And it seems like Ward might have some competition for a spot on the team.

With both the Raiders and Giants struggling at quarterback, they will surely compete to acquire the best one. This past offseason, the Raiders replaced Jimmy Garoppolo with Gardner Minshew, who has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this season. Moreover, Aidan O’Connell didn’t prove to be much of a long-term option for the team. In this case, getting a player like Shedeur will be a boon for the team. And the Giants are in the same boat. With the Jones era coming to an end, they desperately need a quarterback upgrade. Now with both teams at 2-11, who will land the higher draft pick and have the better shot at snagging their preferred quarterback?
