Every year Georgia Tech manages to beat up one unsuspecting ranked opponent, and this time it looks like it’ll be Miami. See, fans are all in for the idea of Hurricanes being the national champs, but does their track record look like something a national champ team would gather? Yes, the Hurricanes have managed to average 40+ points in almost all of their games and Cam Ward is currently running on the top of the Heisman odds list with +200 under his name but the games against Virginia Tech, Bears, and Duke paint a very different picture. A team going 9-0 isn’t someone you’d expect to be trailing behind opponents.
And it looks like people are finally catching on. Back on X, Zach Gelb wrote off Cam Ward and the Hurricanes from the championship run. “But even if Miami comesback, they are once again showing why even at 9-0 that no one should’ve called them a National Championship contender,” Gelb mentioned in his post. See, against Virginia Tech, Cam Ward and Co. were behind by 10 whole points. This ain’t even the worst part. Against the Bears? They were down 25. And now as they face off against Georgia Tech, they are trailing by 6 points. The Hurricanes are barely getting any room to play their iconic rush game with the Xavier Restrepo and Cam Ward pairing.

Cam Ward is a heck of a QB.
Xavier Restrepo is a really good wide receiver.
And I’ve always liked Mario Cristobal.
But even if Miami comesback, they are once again showing why even at 9-0 that no one should’ve called them a National Championship contender.

See, no one will argue that Ward isn’t a reliable QB. He managed to turn the game around against Bears and Virginia Tech and managed to grab 2 last-moment wins. Plus, this dude has already managed to rack up 3k yards under his belt. Which other QB has done that?
29 touchdowns with only 6 receptions? Yeah, he is the “It” factor for Miami, but some analysts do not support the view. A few days back, we analyzed Mel Kiper’s top QB list. Ward was placed on the 2nd spot on the list and Shedeur Sanders was on No.1. The NFC side had to come to his rescue. “Everything I’m about to tell you, it’s going to sound like former number one prospects,” the host from Giants Now by Chat Sports had mentioned.
Ward has the accuracy and the power big throws and it makes him a game-changer for Miami, but will the Hurricanes land on the national championship list, especially with much bigger opponents right around the corner? As Gelb pointed out, “Going into this weekend, I thought only 3 teams could actually win it all this year.”
Oregon, Ohio State, and Georgia
See, nothing is stopping the Ducks and if you say that Miami can beat them, then you have no idea what Dan Lanning and Co. are capable of. They’ve had 2 close games on their current schedule. First was Boise State with Ashton Jeanty almost grabbing the win, but the Ducks came out 37-34 and the next was against Buckeyes at a close 32-31 win. However, both of those games were against teams that were almost on the same level as the Ducks. For Miami? we cannot say the same.
Next are the Buckeyes. Their only loss has been to the Ducks and other than that, they have managed to dominate throughout. Their biggest challenge would be Penn State, and they managed to put a strain on James Franklin‘s unbeaten run.

Finally, there are the big Dawgs. Yes, the Bama loss was a disaster, but the win against Texas brought Kirby Smart right back into the game. You can say that QB Carson Beck had a shaky game in the first half against the Gators but the Dawgs did eventually pull their signature second half game secured a win. When you place Hurricanes next to these 3 teams, the stat difference in the overall plays is VERY different.
But as the Hurricanes struggle to win against Georgia Tech, why don’t you tune in to check out how the NFL’s global game is slowly changing?
