Is Diego Pavia's lawsuit a bold move for athletes' rights or just a desperate plea for attention?

Just when you assumed that the college football drama couldn’t get any crazier, enter Diego Pavia. The Vanderbilt has been constantly making headlines in these past few days. Not for his on-field heroics or that 7-yard scramble to the first down, but for a high-stakes legal battle.

On Friday, The Alabama Crimson Roll Tide Slayer, Diego Pavia, took on the NCAA, filing a lawsuit in Nashville, Tennessee. Pavia was suing the NCAA over its rules, limiting the eligibility of former junior college players after transferring to a Division I school. Pavia argued that his two seasons at junior college shouldn’t eat into his Division 1 eligibility.

His reasoning? He couldn’t cash in on NIL deals back then. Does he have a justification? Maybe. Diego Pavia is making a case that the NCAA’s rules “unjustifiably” restrain athletes like himself for the ability to earn the bread under the NIL. But on Tuesday, November 12, a federal judge slammed the brakes, denying his request for a temporary restraining order that could’ve extended one more year of his college career. Brutal.

Pavia, whose name has floated around as a dark horse for the Heisman trophy. Maybe not now, especially not after suing. But, the fans were chanting his name for Heisman when Vandy pulled an upset over former College football Bully the Alabama Crimson Roll Tide on Week 6.

Diego Pavia had a solid performance against the BAMA, completing 80% of his throws, 2 touchdowns and 252 yards. If we talk about his season, he has pretty good stats: 1,843 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Oh, and can’t forget about those wheels he got, with 628 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.

Yet, none of that helped him in court, where his plea fell flat and short. He argued that he’d suffer “irreparable harm” if he didn’t know his eligibility status before the transfer portal opened on December 9. But the court wasn’t playing about it. Now, his future may not be in his hands, and the fans aren’t exactly giving him a sympathetic pat on the back, more like giving a reality check.
