Ah, if it isn’t the team that has fallen from grace. See, the Wolverines have had quite the arc, and in the center of it all is Jim Harbaugh. 9 total seasons with Michigan and over 70 wins under his belt. You might think, “Da-n, he might be the best coach ever”. Yeah, sorry to break that dream, but the Michigan man is dead. While Jim Harbaugh did manage to make the Wolverines one of the finest in the CFB, all of it was built on a foundation full of lies and cheating. With the entire Connor Stallions sign-stealing fiasco and the subsequent NCAA investigations into the matter, everything was untangled, and Jim Harbaugh possibly became the biggest laughingstock of CFB.
It ain’t no wonder why the man ran away to the NFL. While you can argue that Michigan still went on an undefeated run despite Harbaugh being suspended for 3 games because of the allegations, one thing is for sure, any time Harbaugh’s exploit as the Wolverines HC is brought up, fans lose their minds. And that is exactly what happened again on November 18th. College Football Report took to X to share Harbaugh’s coaching career and his wins. In the post, his Michigan history was marked as “8 years at Michigan: 80-21 (.790). 8 years prior: 54-47 (.530).” Safe to say, fans did not like this.

People quickly went out of their way to call out the claims and link them back to the NCAA allegations and investigations. See, one thing is for sure: the NCAA investigation is probably never going to come to an end, and Paul Finebaum had the perfect explanation for it. “NCAA takes forever to do anything. I don’t think it’s (case) going anywhere. NCAA is powerless,” Finebaum had mentioned back on First Take.
And this statement stands the test of time. While Connor Stallions is out of the picture, Harbaugh is yet to face any consequences of his actions. It is certain that he will never come back to the CFB world, but even if he does, these coaches will have good enough lawyers who can turn things in their favor. As Finebaum notes, “NCAA’s track record in court is worse than Carolina Panthers in the gridiron.”
The only unlucky guy who got caught up in this entire mess is the Wolverines’ current HC Sherrone Moore. Not only was this man found guilty of deleting text conversations between him and Stallions, but he is also enduring arguably the worst Wolverines season in recent history. However, that doesn’t mean people on the internet would stop ripping Harbaugh’s credibility apart.

Jim Harbaugh is in the crosshair once again
What’s your perspective on:
Did Jim Harbaugh's success at Michigan rely solely on cheating, or was he truly a great coach?
Have an interesting take?
“His record at Michigan was pretty awful up until Stallions took over. We don’t count anything from 2021-2023 (currently under NCAA Investigation*)” was what the first fan pointed out. As we mentioned before, as of now, the only result of the investigation is a pending show-cause penalty for Harbaugh and, unfortunately, for Moore as well. Michigan still has their cup folks, which, pretty sure, not a lot of CFB fans want.
On the same note, another fan pointed out, “Don’t forget biggest cheating scandal in college football history, first coach suspended multiple times in same year, and banned from coaching college ever again.” Truly one of the wildest eras in college football and to see this same team fall from grace and struggle with a 5-5 run is hilarious and also a perfect representation of karma.

Another fan noted, “Connor Stalions is a busy man.” This kind of jab at Stallions helping Harbaugh get his solid record via cheating. One jilted fan mentioned, “He’s always been one of my favorite coaches until the cheating scandal with Michigan.” It’s kind of sad to see Harbaugh lose his entire credibility over this. He is still a good coach and the current 7-3 Chargers run proves it, but this stain ain’t never coming off.
Finally, a fan mentioned, “Michigan is the one outlier. Up until the cheating scandal for 3 years, his record wasn’t that amazing.” You can safely say that without the sign-stealing thing, Michigan would’ve never gotten the play-calling advantage that helped them secure the 15-0 run.
