Yes, folks, the news is right. USC suddenly had a tingling sensation in their stomach and decided that this was the best time to retire QB Caleb Williams’ jersey. On September 6th we got the news that USC would be retiring the iconic No.13 jersey. This also somehow manages to tick off some USC fans. People were quick to drag Caleb Williams through the mud, claiming that he has done nothing for the team except win a Heisman. Sounds wild, right? Anyway, USC decided to put the No.13 jersey right next to Reggie Bush’s No.5 jersey, and this caused Caleb Williams to crack up.
Williams took to his Instagram stories and shared the update. “We both had no cut,” Caleb noted while also tagging Bush on his story. Williams had quite the journey with the Trojans. He became the No.8 player in the entire Trojans roster to win a Heisman. For the 3 seasons he played for the Trojans, Caleb had pulled in more than 90 TDs and over 10,000 yards under his belt. Bush, on the other hand, is also a solid guy. He probably had the most electrifying performance in CFB, managing to win 2 Pac 10 Offensive Player of the Year awards. Back during the 2005 season, Bush locked in 16 TDs and over 35 catches. This got him the 2005 Heisman Award and also 2 All-American selections. Retiring both Bush’s and William’s jerseys together feels like something Shakespeare would write.

Both players took the Trojans to their peak, and after they left, the Trojans started going downhill. Quite poetic. While playing for the NFL, Bush managed to lock in 36 TDs and over 5000 yards. However, Williams, on the other hand, is just starting with his NFL era. As the Bears hit the turf against the Titans, Caleb Williams is expected to skyrocket the team to success. While the Bears enjoy the Williams era, can Trojans HC Lincoln Riley manage to fill the void his star boy left behind?
The end of an era for Lincoln Riley
The 2023 season was the start of the downfall. Caleb Williams was noted to leave for the NFL and Lincoln Riley’s entire roster was a mess. The team lost its star QB and Riley now had to build a team around a much inexperienced QB Miller Moss. While we did see the Trojans perform well against the Tigers during their season opener, we still don’t know if this success will be carried forward in their future games.
QB Miller Moss was seen nowhere on the field and his entire presence was lacking. The pressure from the O-line was average at best and the defense still needs work. The Trojans will face mammoths like Michigan, Nebraska, and Notre Dame, and it feels like Riley is in for a rough ride.
