The NFL Draft drama just hit a whole new level, and Shedeur Sanders is right in the middle of it. The Colorado gunslinger is the hottest name on the board, with the top three teams—Titans, Browns, and Giants—all circling like sharks. But there’s been a little extra spice thrown into the mix. The Colorado QB1 has teams scrambling, with the Browns sitting at No. 2, eyeing their next franchise QB. But hold up—Deion Sanders already made it clear there are certain franchises he doesn’t want his son playing for. That’s where the plot thickens. And then, Browns GM Andrew Berry stepped in to clear the air. But before anyone could get too comfortable, Brown’s legend dropped his own take, and let’s just say—he did not hold back.

On January 29th, Cleveland Browns’ legend, Andrew Hawkins, speaking on ESPN’s NFL Network, got straight to the point when asked about Shedeur Sanders in Cleveland: “I like it, I like Shedeur Sanders as a talent. I think you know he has the arm strength. He has a feel for the game. He’s a guy that is used to building programs. You saw what he did at Jackson State. He went to Colorado with think they were a one win team.” And boy, he ain’t lying. Two years at Jackson State? Nearly 7,000 yards, 70 touchdowns, and just 14 picks, with a completion rate of 67%. Then, he took his talents to Boulder, flipped the script for the Buffaloes, and made them must-watch TV.

Then Hawkins gave big props for Deion Sanders and Shedeur Sanders. “He’s not a stranger to the spotlight. Right. You’re a top round pick. And a lot of times when you are a top quarterback drafted sometimes they’re blinded by the spotlight…too much pressure. This is a guy that doesn’t rattle to pressure. He’s the son of the best athlete in the history of the world. So all those things point to a quarterback that feels like he’s primed, no pun intended for the moment.” We’ve all seen top draft picks fold under expectations and pressure, but Shedeur? He welcomes the smoke. His senior year numbers tell the story: 4,100 yards, 37 touchdowns, just 10 picks, and a ridiculous 74% completion rate, turning a 4-8 Colorado team into a 9-4 squad. The man just wins.

Then came the million-dollar question. Hawkins didn’t shy away is asking, “The question becomes, is that a destination that he wants to be at, that prime wants to be at? Because also if you’re a Browns fan or a part of this organization, you want a quarterback not only wants to be there, they feel like they’re the catalyst to turn this into a winning program.” And let’s be real—Cleveland’s track record with quarterbacks? Straight-up tragic. Since 1990, they’ve had 40 different starters, and the best of the bunch? Baker Mayfield, who they tossed aside for Deshaun Watson. Watson got that $240M contract and has barely touched the field since. And word on the street? Deion’s not about to let just any team mess up his son’s career.

Is Cleveland really a no-go for Shedeur Sanders?

Browns GM Andrew Berry had to step in before this turned into an Eli Manning 2.0 situation. With the rumors swirling that Prime wasn’t feeling certain franchises, Berry made it clear: Cleveland ain’t one of them. “I don’t anticipate that being a problem,” he told the media during Senior Bowl. And he wasn’t just talking—Shedeur had already met with the Browns, along with the Titans and Giants, who hold the No. 1 and No. 3 picks, respectively. Word is, the meeting was smooth.

“Shedeur is a really impressive young man,” Berry added. “He’s poised, he’s calm, he’s smart, and you can tell he’s been raised by—quite honestly—a Hall of Fame dad.” Translation? The Browns see him as their guy. And it makes sense. Kevin Stefanski has ties to Colorado’s offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur. The Browns’ new QB coach, Bill Musgrave? He’s got history with Deion. Connect the dots, and suddenly Cleveland doesn’t look so bad.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Shedeur Sanders break the Browns' QB curse, or is he destined for NFL greatness elsewhere?

Have an interesting take?

But here’s the real question: Does Shedeur really want to be a Brown? On camera at the East-West Shrine Bowl, he said he’d be happy with whatever team drafted him. But saying it and meaning it? Two different things. The Browns have been a QB graveyard for decades. Would Shedeur break the curse, or would he be just another name on Cleveland’s long list of what-ifs? One thing’s for sure—this draft season just got real interesting.
