LSU Tigers coach Brian Kelly headed to the 2024 regular season with the hope of reaching the playoffs at least. With the updated top 12 bracket, many teams managed to hit that point, but the Tigers fell behind. No matter what the reasons added to their downfall, Kelly seems to be content with the Texas Bowl win. But don’t get it wrong, he considered the win as a step toward the turnaround, but it’s still 2025 he’s having his eyes towards.
Kelly’s not just talking big; the veteran 3rd-year coach at the Tigers is revamping his roster for real. Not only just in the player’s room, but he is also making some significant changes in the existing coaching crew and the recruiting staff as well.

A critical off-season is approaching. Kelly’s experiment with his people might transform things or destroy a compact flow in Baton Rouge and leave another regular season in serious jeopardy. We are not really sure which way it will work, but former running back Nick Brossette will not be there to witness it. The prodigy has officially been dismissed from his job after a fruitful three years of service as the Director of Alumni Relations and High School outreach. Guess what? He is not alone in the heartbreak. Fellow recruiter JaCoby Stevens followed the suit.
LSU insider Matt spilt out, ”Two former LSU Tigers, Nick Brossette and JaCoby Stevens are no longer part of Brian Kelly’s staff at LSU. Louisiana sports.net and Palmer were among the first, if not the first, to report that Brassette and Stevens both would be gone and would not return to LSU.” Although, we didn’t get to know a lot about the motive the report suggested, a single incident led to Nick’s dismissal, and he was blindsided by the decision.
Brossette, a former LSU running back, has been rock-solid working behind the scenes for Kelly and Co. He was absolutely thrilled to join the force with the Tigers three years back and left up to the hype until the last day. “It has been a dream of mine to come back and work where it all started,” Brossette wrote upon receiving the job in 2022.
Kelly must have some plan behind his sudden pulling of rugs. But let’s not forget, Nick’s arrival saved him from a massive ill reputation in his career once upon a time. At a certain point, people started to frown at Brian Kelly’s ability to recruit from the local area and Louisiana as a whole. Brossette’s hiring came off as a breather, reestablishing his ability to swoop in homegrown talent. Matt added, ”His role was just that was to sort of engage former LSU football players in the program,” which he clearly excelled at.
The other departee, JaCoby Stevens, had an excellent on-field career with the Tigers, starting for 42 games and finishing second on the team in tackles and sacks during his breakout season in 2019. In 2023, he returned to his alma mater as a coaching staff and significantly boosted the recruitment stat. All of the patches and scratches came to an end. But if you ever wonder why, here lies your answer.
The reason behind the sudden sack of the two key recruiting staff: Explained
Letting go is hard. Being let go of is harder. We all can guess Nick and JaCoby are undergoing a tough time in their career. The rod stroked more emotionally than financially, though. Because it raised a certain question about their performances and overall contribution to the team. When Nick was approached to offer a statement about his career, it took a pear shape all of a sudden. But for your knowledge, the termination was not due to any rule infractions or behavior issues; they were just cutting down administrative staff numbers. It was purely a money move.
‘‘Different circumstances surrounding a lot of different a lot of those moves, but one thing that’s certainly true is lower level support staff members, and I don’t have a better way to say that, I don’t mean for that to sound insulting ,like the job isn’t important or significant.” Matt chimed in, ”But it’s not like your coordinator who’s being paid 1.8. You finish 82nd in the country in total offense with those consequences, and he gets fired. When you’re talking about like low-level off-field support staff members, they don’t get fired for performance reasons, it’s not like Nick wasn’t doing a great job engaging the alumni, so we figured we could find someone else who would pay a low salary to be on staff to make calls to alumni and invite him to events like that’s not really how that works,” the insider scooped into a bitter reality.
