LSU is closing their regular season with an 8-4 record. They made up for their three consecutive losses with their final two wins. But amidst the hectic season, the Tigers lost their most valuable possession when Michigan flipped Bryce Underwood. Despite this sharp sting to their 2025 recruitment class, HC Brian Kelly isn’t very worried about the future.
Brian Kelly is optimistic about LSU’s recruitment strength in his appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show. They were ranked among the top 10 in the 2024 recruiting class and some of those freshmen nailed it in their final game. LSU Sports shared the video on YouTube on December 3 where Brian Kelly said, “Well I think first and foremost, we had 21 freshmen that were on our travel team. We played five freshmen against Oklahoma on Saturday night on defense, and we’ll have a number of key players returning. And so when you know that you had back to back recruiting classes that have been ranked in the top five in the country, when you know that you’re going to be active in the transfer portal and that’s part of what is going to shape up your roster, you know what it’s going to look like.”

LSU may have lost the nation’s No. 1 player when Bryce Underwood decommitted. But their 2025 recruiting class still ranks No. 6 in the nation with 25 commits. They have two 5-star players in CB DJ Pickett and RB Harlem Berry, 16 4-star players, and seven 3-star players. “We know the improvements we need to make, both as coaches and as players,” Brian Kelly said. “And we know what we have coming back.”

Kelly continued, “It’s a younger foundation and one that will be complemented with some players out of the portal.” For now, the Tigers have a great roster for next season. But nothing’s final yet before signing day. Underwood may not be their only big loss. LSU still faces the danger of losing a couple more commits who seem to already have one foot out of Baton Rouge.
LSU faces more recommitment threats
Can Brian Kelly retain his committed players? There have been flip rumors about 4-star WR Derek Meadows who committed to LSU in July. The 6’6, 205-pounder is the No. 10 WR in the nation, making him a highly potential target for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama who lost their star WR commit Caleb Cunningham to Ole Miss. But Michigan is another threat and they already showed what they can do by flipping Underwood. But let’s not forget that Notre Dame is also very much in the mix to flip Meadows’ commitment.
Another potential flip could come from 3-star TE Mike Tyler who joined Brian Kelly in June. The South Carolina native has been flirting with the Gamecocks by taking several trips to meet Shane Beamer and co. Interestingly, he didn’t visit any game by the Tigers. With less than 48 hours before signing day, the recruitment battle intensifies. Can LSU emerge victorious in their fight?
