They sure did put their money where their mouth is. Let’s say the season hasn’t started, and we hand you the prediction that a G5 Boise State team would have the 3rd seed in the final playoff rankings. Would you believe us? There has been a longstanding debate on the Broncos schedule. Which notable team have they even faced this season? Right? But here is the thing. While Boise State had an easy schedule, they still had a game against Oregon. The No.1 team in college football right now. Yeah, the Broncos lost, but what matters is the margin they lost by. 34-37 against a top team? Yeah, that alone should tell you that these guys are talented enough to tackle any schedule.
And now that they have secured the 3rd seed, we have to get into the details of how they did it. “Get used to this. Because this is gonna happen in the future as well, because teams can change quickly, like, really quickly with the transfer portal,” David Pollack pointed out on his YouTube show. Once again, it comes down to the portal picks. You see, college football has changed drastically. For Boise, their QB and WR depth changed drastically because of the portal. Spencer Danielson managed to snag Malachi Nelson for the backup QB position, and he did well enough, with 128 yards under him. For CB, Danielson managed to grab Jeremiah Earby, who got the Broncos 26 solo tackles with 1 interception and 1 forced fumble.

On the WR front, Cam Camper was the first pick who managed to bring in 55 receptions with 4 touchdowns and over 800 yards. Then it was Chris Marshall who snagged 3 receptions during the Southern Eagles game.
There is a reason why SEC teams are not dominating the seeding right now. If you check the top 4, Georgia is the only SEC team on there with the 2nd seed. The rest are Oregon, Arizona State, and Boise. Getting into that portal and building a roster that can help you tackle big-name teams like Bama, Vols or Longhorns is an important factor in changing the outcome of every single game.
Did you ever, in your wildest dreams, think an unranked Vandy would win against Alabama? Or would Ole Miss grab a blowout 28-10 win against Georgia? Danielson has done some amazing work for the Broncos.
And that MW Title win against UNLV was the cherry on the cake. Also, how can we forget about Ashton Jeanty? One of the main frontrunners for the Heisman, this RB is changing the offense for Boise State, and we cannot wait to see what they manage to do in the playoffs. And speaking of that, let’s talk about it.

The Broncos against all odds
So, are the Broncos getting an easy game compared to the other natty contenders? See, this depends on several factors. First, we have to see who wins the SMU vs Penn State game. The Nittany Lions are massive this year with an 11-2 run and both of their losses coming from the Ducks and OSU. 2 top teams.
If we go according to the strength of the schedule, then Penn State will take the cake. SMU is ranked 75th in that category, and they have honestly faced no one good all year. Yeah, you can say the game against Clemson for the ACC title was a good showcase of skill, but is it enough to deal with the Lions?

If Boise State is lucky, then they will get to face off against the Mustangs. This could be a blowout win for the Broncos, but if they go up against the Lions, then their reputation might be at stake. Say what you want, but James Franklin ain’t gonna make the same mistake he did against the Ducks. They had a constant back-and-forth against Dan Lanning’s squad, and you can expect the same if they fight off Boise State.
