Everybody would like to know what’s going on inside Billy Napier’s head. He just made a startling QB announcement ahead of their Texas A&M game. This report didn’t sit well with the Florida fanbase as enraged fans were quick to point out the HC’s flaws.
Both the Florida Gators and Texas A&M Aggies are entering their SEC opener with QB injury concerns. But Billy Napier has confirmed that Wisconsin transfer Graham Mertz has recovered and will take the starting nod in the next game. Mertz is in his sixth CFB season playing for the second season with the Gators. Still, with highly-recruited high school QB DJ Lagway exhibiting strong skills in their previous game, fans are questioning the future of Napier and Florida.
Fans believe that Billy Napier is out of his mind. After On3 posted about Florida’s decision to start Graham Mertz at QB for the Aggies game on Saturday on Instagram on September 14, fans didn’t wait to bombard the comments section with brutal warnings against Billy Napier. One person wrote, “Napier out confirmed.”

Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports first broke the news that Graham Mertz will start Week 3 after missing their last game against Samford due to an injury. But it gave the opportunity for freshman QB DJ Lagway to execute his skills. He led the Gators to a dominant 45-7 victory recording 456 yards. Billy Napier said of his decision to start Mertz over Lagway, “We’re going to do what’s in the best interest of the team. Both these players can make our team better. And that’s what we intend to do.” Lagway could still get some playing time but fans aren’t thrilled with Napier’s plan.

Fans predict Billy Napier’s downfall
Emotions were strong with Florida’s decision to start Graham Mertz. One person wrote, “Yup Billy Napier wants to be fired.” Napier is only in his third year in Florida but he seems to be blocking his own future.
This announcement even led a non-Florida fan to also chime in their opinion. They seconded the first reaction saying, “Ain’t a FL fan but Billy tryna lose his job.” In a sport where the QB is the central win-lose factor, the success of a football team usually always depends on the strength of the QB.

One fan compared the strengths of the two QBs and reached a conclusion which is a warning for Napier. They wrote, “This how coaches get fired, knows damn well Lagway is better.” Considering Mertz is in his sixth season, there’s not much to grow but the true freshman has a lot of potential with his speed, arm strength along accuracy, and size, which he displayed in their last game.
Many people are as confused with Napier’s plan as this fan. They wrote, “This is insane. What is going on in Florida.” Napier is going to find himself in a much deeper trench if the upcoming game doesn’t fall in their favor.
