“This is not a place that has great resources in terms of financially right now on the NIL front towards revenue share.” Did Bruce Feldman predict the future? Bill Belichick‘s hiring by the Tar Heels has had a mixed reception. Some think that the NFL talent is going “Change” North Carolina and turn it into an “NFL pipeline”. At the same time, people like Damien Harris point out, “When you look at Bill Belichick and how he runs in operation versus the college football world today. It doesn’t really match up.” But hey, UNC still signed him on a 5-year deal and agreed on the 400-page “organizational bible”. This won’t backfire. Right?

“I feel less confident that he’s going to be a good college coach… Because I think I overestimated what his resume can do for recruiting,” Domonique Foxworth pointed out on his show. CFB and the NFL are completely different. Yeah, the League is definitely bigger and all but the roster-building challenges in CFB sometimes tend to outweigh the League. “In the NFL, all the talent is pretty close… Your coaching can make a huge difference,” Foxworth added. To be even relevant in CFB, being only a good coach ain’t going to cut it. Programs spend millions in NIL to snag the best players on the roster and build on that.

For UNC? this is a tough task. See, Feldman wasn’t wrong when he pointed out that North Carolina ain’t the place you want to be if you are a big-shot NFL coach. Former Tar Heels HC was getting paid $5 million. This is arguably the lowest in the ACC. Now, translate this to the new era of NIL and portal signings, and it doesn’t paint a good picture. The Tar Heels aren’t a program that can throw $10 million to grab a player or something.

And while Bill is going to put down his rings on the coffee table while talking with those recruits, will it get him the seal of approval if the hivemind only wants a massive paycheck and doesn’t care about “reputation”? “Hey, am I going to be able to compete for talent? Um, when all this is everybody’s basically a free agent in college football,” Feldman had mentioned.

Now on a serious note, the new HC has made some massive plans for UNC. Bill has hit the recruiting trail this month and has also pushed to get talents like Najee Calhoun, CJ Edwards, and Jordan Thomas. But then, this creates another pickle for North Carolina.

Tom Brady’s Raiders push and Bill Belichick’s January clause

With how much Tom Brady has been foaming about the Raiders, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he gets hired as the new head coach – more so because Antonio Pierce got booted. However, this is going to put UNC in a bad spot. We all know the bond Brady and Bill share – Six Rings on the back of the NFL’s biggest dynasty, who wouldn’t want this in Sin City? – so it is not even a surprise that the GOAT contacted his former HC to join the Raiders.

What’s your perspective on:

Is UNC's gamble on Belichick a masterstroke or a recipe for disaster in college football?

And as fate would have it, Bill’s contract with the Tar Heels creates the perfect situation for a Brady x Bill reunion at the Raiders. “Bill Belichick has a buyout clause that activates June 1st,” Pablo Torre pointed out on Foxworth’s show. What an era we live in…

The clause is simple. At UNC, Bill is getting a $50 million payday for a 5 year term. However, a $10 million buyout plan exists on his contract that will start from June of this year. This is there to allow him to leave if he wants to call it quits early. However, this buyout will fall to $1 million after June 1st.

Hey, so the plan is simple: Try and get your 5-star players in the first half of the year and build the perfect “NFL roster” at UNC. But if all of that doesn’t happen, call it quits and go to the Raiders. UNC is either going to be one of the best programs in CFB or the Raiders are going to the Super Bowl.
