The CFB world loves a good nepotism drama, and it looks like the torch has been passed from the Sanders family to the Belichicks. The 72-year-old NFL legend, is dipping his toes into the college game at UNC, and guess who’s got his back? His son, Steve, the current DC for the Washington Huskies. Word on the street is that Steve’s gonna be joining his dad’s staff at UNC as the new DC once the Washington season wraps up. Talk about a family affair! Of course, the CFB Twitterverse is having a field day with the whole thing, accusing Bill Belichick of playing favorites. But hey, who can blame a guy for wanting to work with his son?
See, it was practically a given that Steve Belichick would follow Bill Belichick to UNC as soon as rumors of his attendance began to circulate. When Ollie Connolly of The Guardian revealed that Bill Belichick sought a contract with the Tar Heels that included a promise that his son would be the team’s future head coach, the situation got even more predictable. And now ON3 reported today, “Steve Belichick is set to become the DC at North Carolina🐏.” Thus, the forecast came true. Interestingly, just a day after Washington linebacker Khmori House signed with UNC, news broke about Steve Belichick heading to Chapel Hill.
Bill Belichick has already given a shoutout to his son, saying that watching Steve coach those young guys at Washington during spring camp was ‘enlightening.’ So, it makes sense that he wants to keep his son close. Now, neither school has confirmed it yet, but everyone expects it to happen on January 1st, right after the Huskies play in the Sun Bowl. That’s when Steve’s contract buyout drops from a whopping $1.2 million to a much more manageable amount.

In case you were unaware, Washington hired Bill Belichick’s 37-year-old son in Feb. So, he was with the Huskies for a year. Under Steve, Washington’s total defense has permitted 324.8 yards per game this season, which ranks them 27th in the country. Prior to that, he spent 12 years on his dad’s coaching staff in New England, serving as their defensive play-caller for five seasons.
Look, it’s no secret that Steve Belichick is following in his dad’s footsteps. And let’s be real, some folks are calling it nepotism. CFB fans are all over it, saying it’s just Bill using his influence to get his son a sweet gig. We’ll see if this father-son duo actually deserves all the ‘nepotism’ talk from the fans.

What’s the scoop on Bill Belichick’s drama according to CFB fans?
Earlier this month, UNC signed a six-time Super Bowl-winning coach to a 5-year contract. Bill Belichick has been employed in the NFL in various capacities since 1975, until his departure from the New England Patriots last season. This marks his first collegiate coaching position, and his son is likely to join him on the staff. In his 400-page football Bible, Bill said that his oldest son is “a coach in waiting.” Maybe you recall that. In light of this, a fan gave Bill a nepotistic slap, stating, “Yeah, we knew this. He’s coach in waiting…” Then a snarky “Cool” comment was made by another fan.
Nevertheless, when the rumors of Bill Belichick joining UNC began, it was also speculated that he would join the program that would satisfy all of his demands. Along with a five-year, $50 million contract to succeed Mack Brown, this was also part of his hiring requirements. After this, a fan became enraged and sarcastically attacked Bill, stating, “Thought this wasn’t in his contract? Interesting.” Another CFB fan said, “Steve already got the tongue wagging 👅.” Looks like, without his father, the Huskies’ defensive coordinator might not be able to enroll at UNC.

Now, a fan likened this circumstance to the bald twin of Peter Griffin. For those who don’t know, this figure was featured in the March 23, 2014, “Family Guy” episode “Fresh Heir.” This guy, who has been concealed in a storm shed, is portrayed as Peter’s vestigial twin. The hairless twin is way bigger than Peter and completely hairless, which just adds to the weirdness. “Steve Belicheck always reminds me of Peter’s hairless twin from family guy for some reason,” a fan wrote in a remark on Steve Belichick.
Let’s be real, Steve’s got his hands full at UNC. That defense? 78th overall, 91st against the score. Nepotism or not, he’s gonna have to earn his keep. Now, the big question is: Can this father-son combo finally get UNC above .500?
