Will Drew Allar's rise at Penn State spell trouble for Ohio State and USC's dominance?

If you thought the Buckeyes and the Trojans were the new rising stars after the fans put them on the No.1 and the No.2 spot respectively on the power rankings list, then you are so wrong. Penn State came out of nowhere with 2 massive wins in Week 1 and is slowly establishing itself as the new best in CFB.

Well, all the credit goes to their QB, Drew Allar. Allar, alongside Andy Kotelnicki and Tyler Warren, have managed to make Penn State the new threat to Ryan Day and Lincoln Riley’s run.

College Football Network took to X to share their thoughts about Allar and his massive growth. “He’s shown he can take over games when Penn State needs him to,” CFN’s Cam Mellor noted regarding Allar’s performance. The season opener against West Virginia saw Allar lock in 3 solid touchdown passes to Harrison Wallace and Kaytron Allen, securing the 34-12 win over the Mountaineers. However, it was against the Green Falcons that Allar truly shone on his team.

The game was off to a rocky start, with Penn State’s offense and defense failing to keep the ship afloat. Enter Drew Allar. Starting with a 5-yard run and TD and then landing a 29-yard TD pass to Omari Evants, Allar managed to sail the boat effortlessly and ended the game with 2 TDs and 1 interception under his belt.

Penn State quickly closed the gap between them and the Green Falcons during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter and grabbed the 34-27 win. “He’s rivaling for the top spot in the conference,” Mellor mentioned. While it is true, that fans have put the Trojans and the Buckeyes on the top, but if you look closely, fans have also put Penn State at No.3 on the Week 2 Power Rankings list. Now, the question is, do Ryan Day and Lincoln Riley have an answer for a new headache Allar has become?

Have an interesting take?

For Ryan Day, it all falls on the shoulders of QB Will Howard. Howard has already proved what he is capable of against Akron and WMU. Already completing 4 TDs and over 500 yards in Week 1, Howard is building up to be the next big Heisman contender. This, combined with OC Chip Kelly’s play calling, will make the Buckeyes a big completion for Penn State when they finally meet on November 2nd.

Now, coming to Lincoln Riley. While this man has lost Caleb Willaims, he had seen hope in Miller Moss. While we didn’t see much of Moss during the season opener game against the Tigers, he did manage to dominate against the Aggies, helping the Trojans grab a 48-0 win. The main factor that could turn around the Trojans vs Penn State game on October 12th is the defense Riley has formulated. However, for now, we just gotta play the waiting game.
