Can Jalen Milroe's recent performance against LSU redeem his rocky season and silence the critics?

We all knew this was coming. See, Jalen Milroe has been a peculiar case this year. This guy was once regarded as the next-best QB, but then came the sudden plunge into mediocrity. Dude started the year of amazing for Bama and Kalen DeBoer. Making someone like Kirby Smart and Co. go scoreless in the first half while bringing in 21 points for the Tide? This was a big deal. However, then started the problems. Jalen Milroe quickly dropped from the best to arguably the worst. Why? Vandy, South Carolina, and Vols. Against Vandy, this guy only managed to grab 1 touchdown but gave out 1 interception as well. For South Carolina? 2 interceptions. And the same for the Vols.

So, we were surprised when we spotted that Milroe didn’t even crack the Top 25 spot on Chad Reuter’s “Top 400 prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft” list. The post shared on X had Milroe under the Top 50 spot despite his comeback game against LSU. Now you might ask why isn’t the Mizzou clash is considered his comeback. Milroe had zero passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. The credit for the entire Mizzou showdown should go to the defensive line Kane Wommack has created. But against LSU, though, it was a completely different scene. See, that night, a record was broken, and a record was maintained.

Milroe started the game off with a banger 39-yard rushing touchdown. Literally, no one could’ve foreseen that play. And that ain’t it. The dude went on to grab a total of 4 rushing touchdowns or Bama. My man forgot that he was the QB and not the WR or RB. But here is the thing, the downfall Milroe had right between the seasons is a stain that ain’t gonna wash away that fast.

A few days back, Mike Gillespie was clear on his verdict regarding Milroe. “Would it be good for Alabama if Jalen Milroe returned in 2025? I don’t think so,” Gillespie had mentioned. Even Todd McShay had talked about Milroe’s ongoing problems and the sudden dip in performance. “But with Jalen, the ups and downs are hard to watch,” McShay had mentioned. The only person who did show full sport for Milroe before the LSU showdown was Josh Pate. “I’d roll with Milroe every day,” Pate had mentioned. If Milroe is out there putting his 100% into that game, then there is no one better than him.

He was so fast with his rushes that the Tigers barely had any time to process what was going on. Bama has managed to retain its 10-year legacy of not losing any games coming off of a bye-week and LSU has lost its privileges of maintaining dominance over the night game. The question now is, will taking Bama to a 10-2 season return Milroe his lost credibility?

Carving a way out of mediocrity

With the 42-13 win, DeBoer and Co. have managed to push Brian Kelly to the edge of CFP elimination. This leaves Bama with 3 more games and this translates to 3 more chances Milroe has to maintain his draft stocks. See, right after the LSU game, Milroe was instantly marked as the AP National Player of the Week. And this was well earned.

Bama QB went from having a +5000 Heisman odds to just +1800 overnight. You can thank DeBoer for some of it as well. The entire Bama offense and defense was reevaluated during the bye-week. The perfect example of it was the fact that even though the team was on a massive lead over Kelly and Co. they still did not lose their sight from the football. It was like watching a pack of lions hunt down prey.

But coming back to our QB. He is going to face quite the fight if he even wants to crack it to the No.1 NFL draft spot. Look at Cam Ward, Dillion Gabriel, or even Shedeur Sanders. All of them had a much better season. Milroe can turn things around and his performance against Auburn and Oklahoma will be the key to it. We are sure Tide fans cannot wait to watch this guy carry his way back to the top.
