Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty alone aren’t the only contenders in the Heisman Trophy race. A new candidate has entered the competition, highlighting the fact that college football has numerous exceptional players, each with their own unique strengths and outstanding performances. Among these talented individuals is Cam Skattebo, a star player from ASU, who gained recognition after their recent victory over Iowa. Now, let’s explore the reasons behind Arizona State’s head coach’s unwavering belief in Cam’s exceptional gameplay.
However, with recent turns of events on December 7, insider Chris Karpman highlighted Arizona State’s head coach, Kenny Dillingham, expressing his desire to see his star running back on the Heisman finalist list. He confirms this news on X, saying, “Dillingham on whether Cam Skattebo should be a Heisman finalist in New York: “I do think he should be. Turn on the tape.”
Looks like Kenny Dillingham approves Skattebo’s Heisman ticket to New York. And why not? The former Sacramento State player already had an impressive resume this year, with 1398 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 247 carries, along with 35 receptions for 468 yards, but what he did in the Big 12 Championship game made the case even stronger. It’s no wonder that the GOAT, Nick Saban, name-dropped Skattebo while going for the Sun Devils to win the conference. How did he fare in the game today?

Well, 16 carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns to help ASU triumph by 45-19 over the Cyclones. However, these are just numbers. If you didn’t see the game live, hop on YouTube and watch the highlights. Specifically, watch one particular run from Skattebo in the first half for a 47-yard gain.
Of course, you can see that it was a big play, but when you watch it, you realize why people go ga-ga over the Sun Devils’ running back. Several Iowa State defenders tried to bring him down, but Cam looked determined to avoid just that. Almost falling, just about to go down, and you think the play is over. But, no! He just kept going on and on and on. In between, he left several Cyclones’ defenders on the ground. The whole thing was a piece of magic. A true artist! It showed the degree of strength and power Skattebo puts in all the runs. No wonder they are in the playoffs now. At 11-2, Kenny Dillingham’s team deserves it all.

Kenny Dillingham on ASU’ position
Well, no wonder ASU proved itself to be a deserving candidate for the playoffs. Now that they have a confirmed spot, there is only one thing left, and that is their seeding in the top four teams. Now, that’s a tricky part with all the other strong teams in the run; it’s really hard to say if Arizona State really has a definite spot in the top 4 teams, but then the team is at an 11-1 record and has been showcasing remarkable gameplay since the start of the season.
Even their head coach, Kenny Dillingham, is making a fair comparison about why the team should have a strong standing in front of the playoff committee, as after the game, he says, “Last year, they (CFP selection committee) kept Florida State out because their quarterback didn’t play; we’re 11-1 with our quarterback, and we’re Big 12 champs. I think we should be treated like an 11-1 team.”

Despite going undefeated, the Seminoles were left out of the game because of their QB, Jordan Travis, and couldn’t make it to the playoffs. But the question here is, are there other strong teams like SMU, Boise State, and many more in the run? Is it really that simple for ASU to make it to the top four teams? Only time can tell that.
