Is Brett McMurphy's criticism of Ashton Jeanty just another example of Boise State bias?

Even though Ashton Jeanty has been HEISHIMAN Throughout the season. Some just won’t be impressed with you, even if you break a mountain. The Boise State running machine has 1,248 rushing yards, which is more than 200 yards clear of anyone else even after his bye week. It seems some just wouldn’t budge. That’s the price you pay for being extraordinary. The guy literally has a sandwich named after him in Idaho. You can always vouch for good people to take care of hecklers; that’s what they did here and how. Surprised, why such kind of backing? Well, you shouldn’t be.

It might be argued that Broncos #2 didn’t play to his standards against the Rebels. But he still rushed for 128 yards and got the winning TD. And most importantly, Boise State secured the 29-24 dub. There could be a light way to put the case. But nah, CFB insider Brett McMurphy took the infamous route he’s known for. Especially when it comes to Boise State and Ashton Jeanty.

This is what life is like at the epicenter of a solar phenomenon. He’s famous enough to have trading cards and fans hunting him in Pacific Ocean hotel lobbies. Such is the level of influence this dude has created on the people of Boise. The 5-foot-9, 215-pounder who runs fast enough to get a speeding ticket in a school zone is already on pace to break Barry Sanders’ 36-year-old CFB record for rushing yards in a season. However, not all see with the same lens, as McMurphy lobbed an odd comparison, juxtaposing Jeanty’s Week 9 stats against Barry Sanders’ legendary Heisman season. Poking on X, Sander’s ‘worst’ season is still better than Jeanty’s. Seriously? That was so uncalled for.

At 1,248 yards currently, it won’t be long when he eclipses Sander’s record of 2,628 rushing yards. And Jeanty’s historic performances have vaulted the boys of Boise into the national spotlight. Head coach Spencer Danielson and offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter both praise his work ethic and humility. Danielson’s words sum it up: “I’m (putting) all my chips on the table with these players,” and he likes to call his tailback “10 of 10.”

Fans rush to the rescue of Boise State’s savior RB

Phew! For Bronco Nation, it felt like Brett McMurphy just didn’t get it. One fan, with a sharp take, kicked things off by calling McMurphy a hater. Another chimed in, pointing out what McMurphy missed: UNLV’s defense had focused on stopping Ashton Jeanty, giving Boise State’s quarterback, Maddux Madsen, the chance to shine. “Weird post. UNLV sold out to stop Jeanty, and Madsen did well against a fringe top-25 team on the road. But somehow that’s a bad thing because he didn’t run for 200? McMurphy is a Boise hater—just look at his playoff projections every week,” a CFB fan wrote.

Fans were quick to raise the key question, with one sarcastically asking, “Did you even watch the game? Jeanty played through an injury and still put up 128 rushing yards and a TD. Just give Ashton Jeanty the Heisman already!”

The Heisman hopeful entered Friday’s game with impressive numbers, but things took a turn when he awkwardly landed on his left elbow in the second quarter. Despite the injury, he fought through to deliver what he could. This led one fan to fire back at McMurphy, saying, “’Insider’ that doesn’t watch football,” taking a jab at his credibility.

Others kept it light but brutal, with one calling McMurphy’s take a “[Clown] take,” adding, “Honestly, not surprised—biggest Boise hater out there.” Another leaned into the humor, saying, “LOL… you’re such a cliché hater. Don’t forget to wear your proper uniform, clown,” pairing it with a GIF of a masked clown.
