Is Ashton Jeanty the running back who will finally break the Heisman quarterback stronghold?

The Heisman. For a long time, quarterbacks have dominated the race for that single trophy and it is about time someone breaks that domination. Enter the Broncos RB Ashton Jeanty. It has been quite the ride for Boise State and HC Spencer Danielson. Standing on a 5-1 run, the Broncos quickly became one of the underdogs this season, and behind much of the success has been Jeanty. This guy has been a monster for the Broncos offensive line. The dude has somehow managed to average at least one first down in each of his runs, which says something.

fIn just 6 games, Ashton Jeanty has managed to crack it to the top of the list. 1248 yards, 17 touchdowns, and an average of 9.9 in all the games combined. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he has already managed to crack some solid records. Back on Instagram, CBS Sports posted an update comparing Jeanty with the last 3 Heisman winning RBs. “Ashton Jeanty’s pursuit for the Heisman continues,” CBS mentioned in their post.

Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram, and Reggie Bush were the last 3 running backs who had managed to steal the Heisman trophy away from the QBs. In terms of rushing yards, Jeanty has managed to bring in double the numbers when compared to the last 3 legends. Henry, Ingram, and Bush were all around 665 to 761 rush yards. But this guy? He is on a massive 1248 yards. In terms of rush TDs, Jeanty is still in the lead with 17, while the others were 10, 7, and 9, respectively.

This does not look good for Travis Hunter. You all know that at this point, the Hunter vs Jeanty rivalry has to be one of the best out there. Listen, Hunter has managed to turn the tides for the Buffs. Against the Rams, Baylor, and Knights, he showed everyone what he was truly capable of.

But the question is, will it be enough to break through the bar that Jeanty has managed to set? Hunter’s performance against Arizona left much to be desired. And he is not to be blamed. Dude suffered a serious shoulder injury in the previous game and maybe skipping the Arizona showdown would’ve been a good option.

At the end of the day, he still had to be sidelined because his injury worsened. But can Hunter redeem himself? While Jeanty is collecting up quite a few stats, he is doing it only as a running back. Hunter, on the other hand, has been the perfect weapon for Deion Sanders on the offense and the defense.

We’ve seen a lot of people mention that what Hunter is doing in CFB, he won’t be able to carry forward to the NFL. Playing that many snaps on the offense and defense in the NFL is not a small feat, but it looks like Hunter can rewrite history.

Back on October 23rd, CU Buffs’ official account on X shared a notable feat Hunter had managed to achieve. As per the AP mid-season All-American, Travis Hunter had managed to claim 2 First-team positions. This was not a small task. If you ever doubt Hunter and his capability as a cornerback and WR, you gotta roll back the Rams showdown tape.

Dude managed to rack in 100 yards with 2 touchdowns and caught 13 catches. The highlight of the game was his defensive interception, in which he managed to intercept a pass from Rams QB and ran the ba-l back up by 30+ yards. As of now, on the ESPN mid-season voting list, Hunter is standing in the 2nd spot while Jeanty still has the first. Maybe when the Buffs clash against the Bearcats this weekend, our 2-way star will finally be able to win back his crown.
