Can Jeanty and Ward maintain their Heisman lead, or will the Buffs' duo steal the spotlight?

Rest up, Colorado Buffaloes! With a bye week in Week 6, the Buffs have a chance to regroup and recharge. But while Deion Sanders and his team are taking a breather, who else is making the most of this time off? It’s Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward and RB Ashton Jeanty from the Boise State Broncos. Their Week 6 stint has been so powerful, it left Buffs dynamic duo QB Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter take a backseat. But that’s because the Colorado Buffaloes are on pause. Meanwhile, no matter how high Jeanty and Ward soar, the Buffs’ USP is going to give them an advantage in the Heisman race.

Timing often plays a key role in college football. This weekend has been tough for Alabama as they got crushed by Vanderbilt Commodores. And how did Jeanty and Ashton benefit from Tide’s loss? Well, it was evident that Kalen DeBoer’s QB Jalen Milroe failed to keep the Tide rolling. Plus, the Buffaloes are on the first of two bye weeks this season. That means no spectacular show from their QB Shedeur Sanders. And just then Elite College Football dropped their rankings. And the two new names that are doing the talking when it comes to the Heisman race are Boise State RB Jeanty and Hurricanes QB Ward.

As per the Week 6 standouts, it’s Jeanty, the Heisman favorite who is running wild on college football. On October 5, Saturday, the Broncos blew the Utah State Aggies 62-30. And it was the RB who stole all the spotlight with 13 carries for 186 yards and three touchdowns. The numbers have been impressive enough to challenge the single-season rushing records set by Barry Sanders.

Things even turned for the better for Miami QB Ward as he initially was under the belief that the California Golden Bears would upset Miami. But look how the tables turned! Instead of Cal taking an upper hand over Miami, it was Ward who boosted his Heisman candidacy coming off with 35 of 53 for a season-high of 437 yards topped with three total touchdowns. While the CFB world is going gaga over the top two contenders, the Buffs have been displaced from the top spots.

Ashton Jeanty and Cam Ward face off as unity shines in Boulder

Actually, it doesn’t matter for Colorado Buffaloes. As Jeanty and Ward don two different jerseys, it’s more of a rivalry. In that case, Deion’s program is in a much better place. They have TWO BUFFS doing well in the Heisman charts. At No.3 is Colorado’s dual-threat Hunter while Shedeur’s rank is much below, at No.7. While we have to wait a bit longer to find out the Heisman winner, the Buffs have already won the hearts.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Jeanty and Ward maintain their Heisman lead, or will the Buffs' duo steal the spotlight?

Have an interesting take?

But how? Through the strong support that is running deep in Boulder. Yes, you must be thinking Shedeur and Hunter sharing a single list, they must be on a “look who’s better” race. To pop your bubble, that’s not how things are. Instead, Shedeur became Hunter’s best hypeman on his 2Legendary podcast.
