The Texas Longhorns are thriving under Steve Sarkisian, but one storyline refuses to take a backseat: the Arch Manning vs. Quinn Ewers showdown. Ewers, the seasoned starter, has shown flashes of brilliance but struggles against teams like Georgia, and a mid-season injury has raised questions. Meanwhile, Arch Manning, the hotshot rookie with a legendary last name, made the most of his brief chances, flashing his talent and fueling fan debates. With Manning’s rising momentum and Ewers fighting to reclaim his Heisman-caliber form, Austin is buzzing over who should lead the charge…
Manning, the wonder kid carrying the gene of a legendary bloodline, is shaping up to be a beast. But his progress is still in the process. He is the future. A chunk of the veteran football community believes the present still belongs to the San Antonio kid. ”Arch will have his time, I think Steve’s done an amazing job of putting Arch in some, when Quinn got hurt, Arch got to start two or three games keeping him ready to go and keeping him focused at practice but letting the older one handle the pressure and letting him win the games right now, it’s important,” said legendary Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown.

Arch Manning’s arrival has sparked a lot of new hope, excitement, and anticipation. Quinn Ewers has done his part quite great and you can’t blame Sarkisian for being extra loyal to his guy. Despite an edgy path, Ewers’ brilliance shined through his 246 yards and three touchdowns during a high-flying win over Michigan. He had some issues with turning the balls, occasional bad throws, and a few fumbles. But Overall, Ewers led the offense with much precision and poise.
The question of what’s next for Ewers is a tricky one. The Texas QB has cleared his goal and stated that he’s focused on the CFP and has his eyes hooked on the national championship for the time being, but 2025 NFL Draft speculations are making the talks.
There comes another debate: whether Ewers should go for the NFL or return to college for his remaining year of eligibility. If he leaves for professional football, his mixed performance record in the season won’t let him retain the first-round pick spot and he will have to settle for a potential fourth-round selection, maybe. So, sticking to college for another year might be a wiser move. But sorry fellow Quinn Ewers and Texas fans! If he does stay in college, it is unlikely to be as a Longhorn.

Yes, Arch Manning needs space, needs time to be in his ultimate aura, and he better utilizes his time for preparation to emerge as a top-tier figure at the start. Everything seems on point. But Steve Sarkisian can’t just can’t risk him on the sideline for another year. The transfer portal is blazing. We are counting commits and de-commits faster than we blink. Sure, Manning is a die-hard Texas fan. He grew up dreaming of playing for the Longhorns one day as a kid. This undying passion and love for the school made him stay under the shadow of Quinn Ewers so far.
But the question is how long. Sarkisian has to decide on him today or tomorrow. No matter how good, how reliable, and how accustomed Quinn Ewers is to the entire team culture. He will eventually be forced to vacate the center stage for the star in the making. So, staying in Texas can only mean a setback for the future. Then where to go? There have been some rumors about Notre Dame having their eyes on Ewers, but veteran analyst RJ Young believes it could be Ohio State.
The football pundit said Ewers could go back to his former school, Ohio State, and throw him into a comfort zone. Ewers joined OSU back in 2021, played for a year, and then left for the Longhorns. With Will Howard leaving at the end of this year, Quinn Ewers can be the answer for Ryan Day.
