Arch Manning Fails To Win Over Texas Longhorns Nation in Quinn Ewers’ Absence, Faces Harsh Reality

In the world of college football, the emphasis may be both intense and oppressive. For Arch, that is light that flickered a bit dimmer when he took the starting position for Texas Longhorns against Oklahoma Sooners. When star quarterback Quinn Ewers was out with an injury: an abdominal strain, all the fans were waiting for Manning to come through as the hero. However, for the young prodigy, his performance created more headlines that caused more frowns rather than claps, and he did not garner the approval of the Longhorns’ fan base.

This is how one fan said it, “Quinn, he is solid. He knows he gonna do so well every weekend; he knows what he is doing; he’s developed”. Another concurred with what he said thus, “I think Quinn, just because I think he earned the role more, but I am happy with Arch.” But it wasn’t all one-sided. However, two fans did bother to give Manning some recognition. One of the supporters said, “Arch, probably Arch. He is awesome, he is cool; he seems like a nice guy”.  However, the approval was not enough to counteract the majority view.

The fans wanted a quarterback who would be able to deal with pressure, and many thought that Manning was still making those freshmen mistakes. One fan noted this: “I think Quinn because he is more pro-ready; we can see Arch still make freshman mistakes,” It is significant to recall that both of the quarterbacks come from different situations.

Ewers has been a good junior for quite some time now, and he has passed for more than 6,300 yards and received other honors. He has taken the Texas Longhorns to the top. While there is a persona present, it is still up in the air when it comes to Manning. Ewers has played many more games than Manning – only five, but even then, he is quite far off Manning’s statistics. However, he has a nice QBR of 87.0 against Manning’s 91.0. However, fans want to see something, not quantity; they need someone to come up and deliver under pressure, and as of now that person is Ewers.

As for the immediate future, Arch Manning will have a rather steep climb to get the Longhorns fans on his side. Manning must prove his worth in cameos at best. The time is now, and what the fans desperately want in a leader is someone to steer the Longhorns back to their championship pedigree. One fan summed it up perfectly: “He needs to step up if he wants to win over the fans. The legacy is there, but he has to earn it.” One thing is for certain: the Longhorns have some of the most rabid fans around. They want to see their team get better and they need a quarterback that can step up and play in the clutch.

While Ewers has been in the limelight for so long, Manning has to make sure that he can be more than up to the expectation and that he is more unique about the team. Last but not least, it is not just a story of football; it is about giving a generation a guarantee that no matter what, the next will always be winnable. He’s got the tools, but he has to prove that he can step up.

The fan base is going to wait, and they are going to wait to see what the young quarterback will produce. Until then, however, only one player is the Longhorns fans’ choice in terms of quarterbacks: Quinn Ewers.
