On Saturday afternoon, the Huskers gave the Buckeyes their finest game. Matt Rhule’s team had a chance to take the lead in the third quarter after an interception put Nebraska on Ohio State’s 7-yard line. Tragically, Nebraska failed to capitalize, as quarterback Dylan Raiola bemoaned after the loss. The Buckeyes ultimately defeated the Cornhuskers 21–17. However, the season began well for rookie quarterback Raiola, who scored eight touchdowns in his first four games. Since then, though, he has been cold, recording only one TD pass and 4 interceptions. However, the Huskers’ quarterback appears to be dealing with the OSU gaffe with a philosophical outlook this time, and Arch Manning’s remark elevated it to a new level.

On October 19, Dylan Raiola posted a picture on his IG account, which portrayed the head coach of Nebraska consoling his players after the unexpected loss over Ohio State, with a very sensible message, “To appreciate the SUN, you gotta know what RAIN is…” Simplifying it for the field example, it suggests that recognizing and appreciating good things (the sun) frequently necessitates acknowledging the difficulties or tribulations (the rain) that go along with them. This duality highlights the significance of opposites in forming our experiences and perceptions, reflecting a larger philosophical outlook on life.

What’s more exciting is that Texas quarterback Arch Manning, in support of Raiola’s philosophical outlook, responded to Raiola’s post with the audacious one-word response, “Fact.” It appears that the quarterback has encountered similar situations in his football career, perhaps most notably when the undefeated Texas team lost to Georgia 30-15 last week.

Still, it’s unclear what transpired in Raiola’s most recent game against Nebraska and how he responded to the defeat.

Is Dylan Raiola's philosophical outlook enough to overcome his recent on-field struggles?

The Huskers played to a close result on Saturday. On three drives that ended in field goals, Nebraska might have done better, but they couldn’t consistently deliver while in OSU territory. After receiving seven penalties totaling 62 yards, the Huskers were only able to produce 152 passing yards at a dismal 4.6 yards per attempt. Nebraska played poorly, limiting Ohio State’s strong run attack and converting just one out of 10 third downs.

As of now, losing 3 straight games against ranked Big 10 opponents, the Cornhuskers’ season record is at 5-3. Nebraska has scored fewer than 20 points in each of their last three games. Although Nebraska’s defense was excellent, they continue to find a way to boost their offensive production. “We just came up a little short and that’s what it is right now. And we’ll make sure that we hit those plays coming in the future.” Raiola said at the post-game conference. Okay, when they play UCLA next, we’ll see what they have in store for the supporters.
