The Seminoles’ offense in the 2024 season has been off the rails so far. That’s why head coach Mike Norvell had to take a tough decision to fire offensive line coach Alex Atkins. Our man, who was once seen as a big name in the coaching and recruiting world, will now need another job. It can be said that a pathetic offensive line by the Seminoles cost him his coaching position. Anyway, we’ll save Alex Atkins’ career at the Seminoles for some other days as the fans are more excited about learning who’s going to be the new face of the FSU’s offense.
On the November 13th episode of the ROC Boys football show on YouTube, the host discussed a few names of people who could be an ideal choice for this position. He started by talking about Kevin Johns, saying, “Kevin Johns is not the flashiest name, but he’s a really good football coach with a proven relationship with Mike Norvell. He’s great at developing quarterbacks, as shown with Riley Leonard at Duke and his time at Memphis.”
He highlighted that Oklahoma’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Johns can be a great choice to join Mike Norvell’s staff. Then he went on and talked about Brennan Marion, saying, “Things you love about Brennan Marion are he’s a proven guy that can play and puts points on the board. He’s a very good football coach and recruiter who would crush it on the recruiting trail for Florida State.” The 37-year-old Marion is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and he could be the next O-line coach for the Seminoles.

The third one, as pointed out by the host, is Tino Sunseri. “Tino Sunseri checks the boxes. He can develop to score points. Everywhere he’s been, the offense has performed at a high level.” The 35-year-old quarterback coach at the University of Indiana was a former quarterback himself and is doing wonders for the Hoosiers. Besides that, how did Florida staff react after Alex Atkins’ firing?
Firings all around at Florida State
Are you aware Atkins was not the only one who got fired? Mike Norvell also fired defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans this weekend after the Seminoles’ 1-9 record this season. This was one of the Seminoles’ worst seasons. Now, a four-star interior offensive lineman, Peyton Joseph, has shared his views on it.
“It was a different type of bond. The best is yet to come forever. Got love for this man of the realest in the game,” Joseph said, who shared a strong bond with Atkins at Seminoles after flipping to Florida State in July. Atkins joined the Seminoles in 2020 and before getting promoted as an offensive coordinator, he was an offensive line coach.
He was the one behind the Seminoles 10-3 successful season in 2022. But disappointed, the same has not continued for this season, and as a result, Norvell took this decision. “Unfortunately, we have not upheld the Florida State standard with our results on the field this season. I did not make any of these sessions lightly, but I felt changes needed to be made to elevate our program back to where we all desire it to be,” Norvell said on Monday. It’s important to note that the Seminoles are likely to hire the new coaches by early December, before the early signing period starts on December 4th.
