Can Jalen Milroe rise to the occasion, or is Garrett Nussmeier the real threat in Baton Rouge?

Now who will be the better QB in Baton Rouge on Saturday? See, Bama has somewhat of a weird season this year. With Kalen DeBoer grabbing a massive win against Georgia, the team kind of began to lose their flair. Like, their QB Jalen Milroe started consistently performing worse with each passing game. Dude started off with a completion rate of around 80-70% and that fell to 60-50% by the team Bama reached the Vols showdown. Even if we roll back the Dawgs’ game tape, it is very clear that the fall-off began from the second hand itself. Milroe was missing passes, and it didn’t take long for Kirby Smart to take the lead. The Crimson Tide only got that W because of Ryan Williams‘ beautiful TD run.

So, now, as Bama comes out of a bye-week and heads into the LSU showdown, The Next Round puts a direct question on the table about who would be the better QB, Garrett Nussmeier or Milroe. Josh Pate had one simple answer; “If you could guarantee me 100% of Milroe, I’d roll with Milroe every day.” As we pointed out before, this season has been rough for Milroe and that impact even translates to his career. A few days back on November 4th, Mike Gillispe from Bama Tailgate delivered a clear verdict on Milroe’s future in football; “Would it be good for Alabama if Jalen Milroe returned in 2025? I don’t think so.”

Milroe has to make this game count. In Bama’s last game against Mizzou, this dude did show what he was capable of. He managed to pull in 16 out of 26 pass completions along with 1 rushing touchdown and 215 yards under his belt. This was a massive improvement over his 25-45 pass completion run against the Vols. The best part was the dude didn’t even land an interception against the Tigers.

In every single game after the Wisconsin one, Milroe has landed at least 1 interception to cause a turnover for the opponent’s offense. All this dude has to do is bring in his 100%. If we go back to last season, we can see what he is capable of. Against LSU itself, Bama got a 42-28 win in 2023.

Milroe achieved 219 passing yards along with 155 rushing yards. His dual-threat capability was on full display in that game. This year, he has to double that performance if he wants to make plays for his team. Brian Kelly and Co. have a drastically different defensive line as compared to their 2023 counterpart. They have amazing edge rushers who can easily break the flow for the Bama O-line. It’s time for the guy to lock in and it is time for DeBoer to bring out more of that Nick Saban energy.

Kalen DeBoer is finally playing his cards right

What’s your perspective on:

Can Jalen Milroe rise to the occasion, or is Garrett Nussmeier the real threat in Baton Rouge?

Have an interesting take?

See, there are 2 different reasons why Bama managed to keep Mizzou scoreless the entire game. The first was the fact that the Tigers lost their starting QB and the second was the defensive line. Kane Wommack has done magic to this D-line as they barely allowed Missou to make any good plays. And the interception catches from Malachi Moore were the cherry on top of the cap. But what if we tell you that there is another reason why the Crimson Tide boys didn’t lose their focus?

Back on X, a user was quick to share a clip of DeBoer finally getting rid of his “calm” personality and adopting something Bama fans know too well. “KALEN DEBOER IN PLAYERS FACES AS WE’RE 34-0?!?!” the user on X mentioned. DeBoer was in the face of OL Emil Ekiyor Jr. and it was clear that the HC was scolding him. This is what you need to make your boys snap back.

Even DL Jihaad Campbell made it clear a few hours back that DeBoer is not playing around in the locker room. He had left the players an important and violent message. “Non-stop violent, non-stop physicalness, non-stop execution,” Campbell mentioned DeBoer had said to the boys. The bye-week happened at the perfect time. Bama needed this break to look back and fix their mistakes, and Milroe needed this to figure things out. Now what matters is if DeBoer and Co. can manage to keep up their 10-year Bama legacy alive by not losing any game coming out of a bye-week.
