Prospects and players are increasingly becoming like sand in this NIL era. The more tightly you try to grip them, the more they will slip out of your hands. Take, for example, Bryce Underwood, who had everything planned with LSU, and in a moment, he was planning the same things with Michigan. Then there is Xavier Lucas, who transferred to Miami without even needing the transfer portal’s help and without telling the Wisconsin Badgers about it. Mike Elko has been suffering from a similar situation.
We all know about Micah Hudson, the well-touted WR prospect who came to the Aggies this off-season. His arrival was touted to be a master move by Mike Elko, as Hudson was a five-star in the 2024 class. He initially had signed for Texas Tech but due to a lack of games and involvement, he packed his bags and departed 429 miles away to College Station within the state of Texas. Joey McGuire, the Texas Tech head coach, even provided the reason behind his departure.
“The injury affected him to where, going through camp, of like how he was progressing and getting caught up and then he got to where we were like ‘OK, he’s really got his legs beneath him, here we go’ and then he gets hurt again…I do wish, when you go back…that he comes in healthy, that he hadn’t been playing high school football with that kind of knee injury, and it would have already been done, and he would have been back quicker and stuff like that and I think that would have changed some stuff.”

Was it the players’ carelessness through his injury or his inability to produce for the Red Raiders that invited his departure? Well, whatever may be the case, he joined Texas A&M and looked battle-ready there. However, in January, he announced that he would be withdrawing from all football-related activities for the Aggies. And now, after two months of speculation about his future, it is being reported that the player has finally departed the Aggies.
Billi Liucci of TexAgs posted via X, “Not that it was in any way in question outside of message boards/social media but Mike Elko confirms that former Tech WR Micah Hudson is not with the A&M program“. This would essentially mean that the player would now be making a new switch. Just three months after transferring and not playing a single game for the Aggies.

Pete Nakos of On3 reports that it’s looking likely that the player could ultimately go back to his old Texas Tech team through the transfer. If this happens, it would be like the move of Kadyn Proctor. He transferred from Alabama to Iowa only to return to Alabama. How have fans taken to this news? Let’s get into it.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Micah Hudson's constant team-switching a sign of ambition or just indecisiveness in the NIL era?

Fans opine on Micah Hudson’s transfer antics
Well, as is obvious, no decision on the internet and social media comes without its criticisms and even support. Hudson’s time with the Red Raiders was uneventful, as he played eight games and managed just 123 yards. That surely doesn’t favor his case amid all these things. And so his move has surely divided the internet. Some say that it could be a genius move given the condition of the Aggies. While others troll him for disrespect and betrayal. One of the users expressed the same emotions in not too few words but with a harsh take on college football in general. “This is why I can’t get excited over signing day anymore. Any day now, the sport itself will feel dead inside. It’s become far too transactional“.

While another user lamented on the talent Aggies are going to miss, “So unfortunate. Would have been a key piece in the Aggies WR Room.” Whatever may be the case, it doesn’t quite look like his departure would hurt the Aggies in any way since the Aggies have three other receivers added through the portal. Those are Mario Craver, who joined from Mississippi State Bulldogs and had 368 yards last season. Then there is Jonah Wilson joining from the Houston Cougars. However, the most appealing one is surely Keven Concepcion from NC State. He received 1,299 yards and 12 touchdowns and is looking like the WR prospect to watch out for.
One of the fans pointed towards the NIL link.” Check bounced…?“. Another user explored optimistic beginnings for Micah Hudson as he said, “He saw he was gonna be WR4, so he dipped 😂“. Sure, Mike Elko will feel Micah Hudson’s loss. But, we aren’t still sure about why the player did what he did. This is a player who has immense talent and was dubbed an ‘electric receiver’ during his recruiting. He even won District 4-5A D1 Most Valuable Player in 2022, playing for his high school. If the player again ends up at Texas Tech, then he will surely be welcomed without any grudges. This is because he was the crown jewel of Joey McGuire’s 2024 class and still has immense potential. However, it still remains to be seen where he ends up.
