Is Sherrone Moore's lack of faith in Alex Orji justified, or is he being unfairly sidelined?

In a dominant win, the No. 3 Texas Longhorns beat the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines. After a high-margin loss of 31-12 the ability of Alex Orji as a quarterback is being seriously scrutinized. His weak gameplay was evident, even to his fans. His future with Michigan is now in serious question, highlighting head coach Sherrone Moore and the team’s doubts about his abilities.

After Michigan’s high-margin loss against Texas, there are speculations about Alex Orji’s future in the team. A fan took to X saying “They have zero faith in him throwing the ball”. Sherrone Moore replaced Alex’s position with Quarterback Davis Warren during the offseason. However, this season Alex completed only one pass running for three yards against Fresno State. And against Texas, he had only 2 rushes for -1 yards.

It’s clear that Alex Orji’s running game is very weak. This has surely raised various speculations about his future as a player. However, during his junior year in 2020, Orji ran for 1,647 yards with only 11 touchdowns. His game was exceptional, adding a total of 980 yards with 16 touchdowns. Even his senior year was the same in terms of gameplay. Alex threw the ball for 2,056 yards, gaining 28 touchdowns. His excellent strength on the field made him one of the top quarterback choice for Michigan. But this season his performance is saying something else.

A fan had a similar opinion on the team’s opinion on Alex Orji’s performance He attempted one pass all last year, which should tell us what the staff thinks” they said. Nothing far from the truth. Orji only completed a pass running for five yards last year. Even in 2022, he only had a pass attempt running for 37 yards. Another fan also had an exact same opinion, “Bad horrible bad”, they said on Alex’s overall performance against the Longhorns. Even the team ended up catching strays when a user wrote, “They have zero faith in him throwing the ball…

Another fan took to X to straightaway question Alex Orji’s capabilities as a quarterback, sayingMy question is how bad can Alex Orji be that you think this is your best option?” Sherrone Moore trusted him with the offense, but he could only throw three passes. A fan added to it saying “Why not play the true freshman, Jadyn Davis? He can’t be worse than Warren or Orji.” Well, looking at Alex’s week 2 performance, what else can you expect? Looks like everyone is unsure about Alex’s gameplay. Well, even if he was a three-star recruit for the Wolverines, the team suffered an embarrassing loss due to his consistently weak performance throughout the match. It remains to be seen if Alex Orji can elevate his capabilities and bring added value to help the team win.
