The Kansas City Chiefs continue to boast their quintessential reputation despite their drastic Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. No debate, please! They are still the best in the NFL. After all, you can’t simply sleep on the fact that they are the team that won three of the last six championships and grabbed a ticket to three consecutive Super Bowls. However, they need to bolster the support system of their crown jewel, Patrick Mahomes, during this draft. Who could be the most athletic weapon for that? Oregon Ducks’ starting left tackle: Josh Conerly Jr. turns out as the most ideal name in the list. But did he really bide that well? A minute detail on the combine raises concern.
Listed at 6 feet 4 and 315 pounds, the kid hailing from Seattle, Washington, had an impactful early career at the Rainier Beach High School. He eventually developed into the No. 1 offensive tackle in his recruiting class and the No. 8 overall prospect. It became a no-brainer that top tier schools, including Alabama, USC, and Michigan, started to take a chance on him. However, passing them all over, Conerly chose the Ducks and never looked back.
Even against the quickest edge rushers, he showed tremendous control in getting back into his pass set as smoothly as the confetti slides into the air. He has a menacing length to keep defenders at bay more often than not. On the other hand, all of his qualities are highly chased by the Chiefs. It seems the Oregon defensive hand is currently Kansas City’s biggest need — and Conerly’s unique features, frame, and skill set make him a nice fit for the Chiefs. He would give quarterback Patrick Mahomes a blocker who can scramble with him, getting out in front to block for him downfield.

However, it seems in the post combine mock, there is an outright contradiction. As per insider Zack Eisen, ”every post combine mock I’ve seen has Josh Conerly Jr. at 31. I think it’s an easy need fit for folks to slot him there, but it’s another developmental tackle that likely won’t be ready to start week one. ”
Eisen compared him to Kingsley, a looked-over tackle from the previous draft. It doesn’t make much sense, as Kingsley had played significantly fewer snaps than Conerly Jr. (1800). Intersecting the post even more, another draft expert, Matt Lane, said that ”folks don’t really have him as an R1 OT, or he wouldn’t be available at 31.”
What’s your perspective on:
Is Josh Conerly Jr. the missing piece for Mahomes, or should the Chiefs look elsewhere?
Have an interesting take?
I think it tells you 2 things
1) folks don’t really have him as a R1 OT or he wouldn’t be available at 31
2) people are overly-locked into KC (for good reason) taking an OT in R1 that they aren’t considering much else going into it

Irrespective of the right or wrong debate, it’s a concerning detail on the class LT like Conerly, who ran a 5.05-second 40-yard dash with a 1.71 10-yard split. He dazzled the scouts with his 10-yard split, which was arguably the best among the competing OLs.
It can be a real blow for Conerly’s Chiefs’ chances as they seemingly found another weapon for Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas City Chiefs will probably find an alternative solution for Patrick Mahomes’ woes
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes might have just gotten under the skin of Brett Veach by asking for some additional offensive support in the offseason. The prodigy didn’t have a lot of guys by his side to step up at the right moment this season, while injuries to Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown made it really chaotic.

Rice is still healing from a torn ACL and has yet to get rid of his ongoing legal barriers, and Brown is going to be a free agent in a couple of weeks. So, what would be the solution for 2025? A question that keeps Chiefs coaches awake at night for a while.
Xavier Worthy can be a decent wide receiver to turn to, but the Chiefs really need to add some more names this month, and it seems they are not only having their eyes on Oregon LT. ESPN’s Aaron Schatz recently made some free-agent predictions, and he projected that Kansas City would land Stefon Diggs on the open market.
“With a number of free agent wide receivers ready to depart, the Chiefs need a veteran who can play on the outside opposite Xavier Worthy after Rashee Rice returns to the slot,” Schatz wrote. Diggs should be recovered for the start of the 2025 season after suffering a torn ACL in Week 8. He had a positive DVOA for the Texans before his injury and was on pace for another 1,000-yard season.”

If they really move on with Diggs, Josh Conerly’s chance will take a serious dip.
