Deion Sanders’ NFL rumor is shaping up. After a lot of back and forth, Coach Prime narrowed down his interest in the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders. The options looked even more specific after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones showed clear interest in hiring the sublime Coach Prime. They both had a talk that went pretty delightful, according to the Buffs coach and former Cowboys cornerback. But there’s more to the story. Deion Sanders is seriously brewing his departure behind the scenes.
Coach Prime has to coach the Buffs without his sons. The single thought is enough to understand his dilemma and indifference toward one more year at Colorado. So, does Papa Sanders really consider pulling the rug here? Well, the latest nitty gritty depicted so.

The Dallas Cowboys announced on Monday that Mike McCarthy would not be back as head coach in 2025. Rumors about who would be the next started swirling almost immediately. Among the most talked-about names was Deion Sanders. “It’s truly delightful and intriguing to hear from Jerry Jones. I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and process it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder, our team, the coaches, the student body, and the community.” Sanders told ESPN after having a conversation with Jones. On top of the deets, Coach Prime reportedly reached out to AD Rick George on Tuesday for his additional NIL money and his staff.
One thing to watch following Jerry Jones and his initial discussions with Deion Sanders. Two people with knowledge of the situation tell me Sanders approached Colorado AD Rick George Tuesday about additional money for NIL and his staff. He was met with resistance. The University…

Would it be another farewell in Colorado? Ask your fan fiction.
No matter what, Deion Sanders has specified that he would be only interested in signing with the NFL if he would have a reunion with his sons. Shedeur, having a spectacular season stat under his belt, is awaiting a top draft pick while Shilo looks to improve his stocks. The Cowboys, holding the 12th overall pick, might not be able to pull Shedeur. So, Sanders’ conditions will hit a snag there.
Also, Sanders’ contractual complications are likely to play a role. His current contract contains a hefty $8 million buyout. But the stumbling block didn’t end there. Dallas QB Dak Prescott started a four-year, $240 million extension in 2025. Trading him would cost Jones $103.2 million” dead money, ” so he might not walk in that path. For that matter, Hiring Shedeur and Deion as a package deal seems nothing but pure fiction.
However, sometimes, it’s fun to daydream about fiction to become a reality. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith quite did the same.
ESPN analyst deems the Deion Sanders-Jerry Jones duo a perfect match
Dallas Cowboys are officially in the hunt for their 10th head coach in franchise record. It is clear that Jones, 82, is salivating about the idea of taking the larger-than-life coach, the former Dallas guy on board. Well, the idea might come off as fascinating as a summer breeze to the Cowboys and Deion Sanders fan, but apart from all the pen and paper blocks, there are some intangible issues as well.

Both the powerhouse coaches are extensively known for their headstrong personalities. So, there is a legitimate question whether or not they will be able to fit in the bubble and work together without butting heads.
But ESPN mogul Stephen A. Smith sees a silver lining. “I believe if Jerry Jones offers Deion Sanders this job, Deion Sanders is going to take it,” Smith said on First Take. “I’m saying Deion has that element. That element that Jerry Jones won’t shun. Because it still shines a light on the Cowboys, but it doesn’t dilute Jerry Jones’ shine. Both can be true. And that’s why I think it could work.”
Deion and Dallas have a timeless history. Although Smith doesn’t have a very good reputation for being accurate in his instincts, if he comes out right this time, it would be a new era for Coach Prime and the Dallas Cowboys as well. Homecoming is always special after all.
