The fans who were cheering for the “Saban Field” renaming of the stadium, hours later standing in the same place, were booing Alabama because every part of last Saturday’s game sucked! And what was their finest player even doing? Jalen Milroe was sacked three times, and the outcome was a disaster. How so ever, they won the game but received a tremendous amount of criticism from fans, analysts, even their former players, and who not. The Crimson Tide alum quarterback Jake Coker expressed his thoughts on Jalen Milroe and Bama’s offense in the game against USF. Although he seemed to favor Milroe, he did not have anything good to say about Kalen DeBoer.
The disrupt media welcomed Alabama’s ex-quarterback, Jake Coker, to address the elephant in the room, Bama’s last game okay-ish performance. “I’m tired of hearing the Jalen controversy. Man, he’s our starter. There’s no better guy to be the starter to Alabama this year than Jalen Milroe.” Wait! It’s not an everyday thing when a national championship QB praises a CFB player. It’s such an enormous compliment for Milroe amidst receiving backlash all across the place.

Besides highlighting the fact that there ain’t no one like Jalen Milroe, Jake Coker further went empathetic with Milroe by stating his own experience: “I mean, I know what those situations feel like. You feel like every time you know you have a good, positive play, it’s called back. And then you know when you reset on second, long, third, and long, you know they’re bringing different looks, and you’re not quite on the same page, and you just can’t feel like you’re getting any momentum going; it’s tough as a quarterback, especially when you’re getting hit a lot.” Golden words said by Jake, because playing a quarterback is not for the faint of heart, especially when you’re playing in the big leagues.

Jake didn’t hold back when he threw some serious shade at Alabama’s new head coach, Kalen DeBoer, who took over after the shocking retirement of their legendary leader, Nick Saban. “I’m not going to say it’s a lack of communication, but the lack of familiarity definitely played a huge role in us getting off to a slow start. We didn’t play like the Alabama we’re used to seeing in the fourth quarter,” Jake remarked.

Coker delivered a reality check on DeBoer’s coaching style, specifically calling out the poor defense and offensive confusion. He didn’t shy away from suggesting that the lack of preparation from the new coaching staff was to blame. When he stated, “This isn’t the old Alabama we saw under Saban,” it was clear that he was placing the responsibility squarely on DeBoer’s shoulders.
The Bama vs. USF game got off to a rough start, with Jalen Milroe sacked three times and hurried on multiple other occasions. Alabama struggled with discipline as well, facing several penalties that nullified two crucial touchdowns. Many critics point to Milroe’s explosive 74-yard run as the turning point in the delayed victory, but the win left fans questioning his ability to lead the Crimson Tide moving forward.

Despite the early struggles, Alabama still holds a 2-0 start to the season. The real test now will be whether they can bounce back and find their footing in the upcoming games, especially with the shadow of Saban’s legacy looming large over DeBoer’s first year at the helm. The Tide may have stumbled, but they still have time to prove they can rise again.
