Is Arch Manning's backup role a waste of talent, or is it crucial for his development?

Whether to stay or not to stay was the question that loomed in QB Arch Manning’s heart. The 6-foot-4 QB’s place in the Texas Longhorns has been secured ever since he stepped in. But when the opportunity came to hit the transfer portal, Arch decided to stay. While later on he might have got reeled in a guilt trip, he got a thumbs-up from his uncle and NFL star Peyton Manning. In case that too didn’t calm his nerves, another NFL legend poured in to drop his crucial advice to be under Quin Ewers’ shadow as the backup. Amidst the hoopla. Arch landed his first career TD pass.

While CFB fans expected Arch to hit the button: SWITCH, he surprised them by staying with Steve Sarkisian’s program. After all, it had been a happy ride for the QB with a successful season debut with five of his six pass attempts for 95 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. But now that Arch decided to continue boasting the Longhorns badge, he got massive support from the NFL big shot. On the Dan Parick Show, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees shared his take on the Longhorns’ QB’s decision.

To him that’s the best decision Arch could have taken, “I think the best thing for Arch Manning is to stay right where he is.” This would give him the ideal opportunity to grow as Brees strongly believes, “Yours is the guy, yours is going to have a great season they’re going to be National Championship contenders this year and then Arch Manning is going to get his opportunity as a third year player.” And guess what Brees is not the only one?

The Texas Longhorns QB reeled in Uncle Peyton’s support as well. Now that Arch has started investing in the process of self-growth that’s something the Denver Broncos star is proud of. He stated, “I think he wants to play. He wants to establish himself first…I’m proud of [Arch] for staying there. Most kids would probably transfer in that setting, but he stayed there.” The Longhorns QB is already making the noise.

Longhorns crush Rams with Arch Manning stealing the show

What’s your perspective on:

Is Arch Manning's backup role a waste of talent, or is it crucial for his development?

Have an interesting take?

This season, on September 1, Sarkisian’s program refused to give the Colorado State Rams a single chance to score a point. And during the big night, Arch clinched the spotlight. He ran 5-for-6 for 95 yards and even produced a touchdown pass. Of course, it had been special for the latest member of the Manning legacy since it has been the first of his college career. And what better opportunity than the game where the Longhorns demolished the Rams, 52-0, and set their steady step for the season?

In the same game, Sarkisian’s star QB ran for his first rushing touchdown. As the Longhorns headed into the third quarter with 38-0, Arch led the offense on third-and-goal from the 5-yard line, before he decided to take a snap. Later on, he dished out a shovel pass on Silas Bolden’s way.

Yes, this was enough for the Longhorns fans to bask in Arch Manning’s glory. But poor Texas fans! For the time being, they have to use banners with his student ID on them! Now that he got the much-needed boost from NFL legends, here’s hoping even as a backup Manning keeps on making Sarkisian proud.
