Is Kalen DeBoer losing his touch, or are rivals just outplaying him in the recruiting game?

Kalen DeBoer, the first-year head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, is trying to fit in the shoes of legendary HC Nick Saban, who won six national championships in 17 seasons. But it’s interesting to notice that when Saban joined Alabama, Alabama’s GOAT head coach late Bear Bryant outshone his talent, but as time proceeded, Saban added value to the program and made a name for himself. However, according to experts, DeBoer is miserably failing to achieve that and losing one after another potential player.

When he joined the program, he seemed full of excitement. “What a challenge, what an honor, what an opportunity,” he said after taking charge of the position. But the current scenario has left him worried as one of Alabama’s crucial players, Jaedon Harmon, flipped his commitment to Tennessee. We are barely a few days away from the season, and Kalen DeBoer is on the edge of losing one more five-star recruit. If that happens, it’s gonna be a difficult situation for him.

Apart from that, a Twitter post is making a buzz at Alabama, which says, “Alabama is fading in the recruitment of five-star guard Jasper Johnson,” according to the official account of Bear Bryant’s Burner, whose owner’s identity is unknown but they follow Alabama’s news. This tweet came out on August 23, 2024. Alabama was Johnson’s primary choice, but it seems his decision has changed in recent days. Although he is scheduled to announce it next week, many analysts predict he’ll end up at Kentucky.

Apart from that, Tennessee won a jackpot by flipping Alabama’s four-star linebacker, Jaedon Harmon, who is the No. 155 player and No. 18 linebacker in the 2025 class according to 247 Sports. “I want to thank the entire Alabama staff for believing in me and allowing me to play for a great program! Respect my decision,” posted Harmon on Twitter after switching his commitment from Alabama to Tennessee. Let’s learn about other players who left Alabama.

Kalen DeBoer lost ten players

Besides that, nearly ten players left the program following Saban’s retirement, including wide receiver Isaiah Bond, who flipped to Texas; CB Dezz Ricks, who joined Texas A&M; another CB, Anotonio Kite, who joined Auburn; linebacker Shawn Murphy with Florida State; TE Amari Niblack to Texas; CB Trey Amos to Ole Miss; safety Caleb Downs to Ohio State; OT Kadyn Proctor to Lowa; CB Jameer Grimsley to Florida; and QB Julian Sayin to Ohio State.

Despite these challenges, analysts predict Alabama will excel in the upcoming season with Kalen DeBoer leading the way. According to a projection, the program will perform well with a win total of around 9.5 games, following slight uncertainty because of roster transfers.
