It’s an absolute WIN-WIN situation in Boulder. Finally, their ‘Mission JuJu’ has come true. Julian Lewis has committed to Deion Sanders’ program. Yes, that was enough for the Colorado Buffaloes to throw a party. That’s when there comes another good news. Deion and co. landed yet another quarterback, Kaidon Salter, making the most use of the transfer portal. Then does that mean that the Buffs can’t fully trust Lewis? Well, at least the Colorado insider feels so. So, here’s how Deion’s program gets into a QB battle.

Now, you must be aware of how far the Buffs came to woo Lewis. From their 100-year-old superfan Peggy Coppom sending a video message to win the Carrollton High School star’s heart to Boulder’s famous burger joint naming the ‘JuJu’s Precision Pass burger’ after him, Deion and his boys have done it all. Now that Lewis is here, it looks like the Buffs are yet to hit the ‘settle’ button when it comes to their quarterbacks. That’s when they landed a ‘top-tier bridge’ for Lewis. For those who are all ready to hate Coach Prime. The Buffs insider Jake Schwanitz assured, “Ofcourse Julian is very talented.” But then why another QB?

Schwanitz answered, “The Buffs had to just upgrade the overall talent in their quarterback room going into this next season.” Well, we know how the 2023 season has been a pure mess when it came to the quarterback situation, with Shedeur ending up as the QB with 52 sacks, so far the highest in college football! However, things did turn in the Buffs’ favor in 2024. All thanks to Shedeur. That’s when Schwanitz highlighted how things might be tough for Lewis, as it would be a risky move for Deion’s program to only trust him.

He stated, “Being able to really take every single snap or every single meaningful snap this next year, you don’t want to just going…hoping, putting all your chips on JuJu.” Being only 17, that calls for a lot of risks. That’s why, to level things out, Deion wanted to add some experience. And that’s where the veteran Liberty transfer Salter might step in.

Salter’s a dual-threat guy who can really sling it. This year for the Flames, he threw for almost 1900 yards with 15 touchdowns, and he wasn’t afraid to tuck it and run, picking up 587 yards on the ground. Even though Buffs OC Pat Shurmur is confident in JuJu’s ‘bright’ future, he knows they need another quarterback who is not a ‘freshman.’ As Shurmur said, “We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure we’ve got the best players and the best room possible.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Deion Sanders playing it smart by bringing in Salter, or should he trust JuJu fully?

Have an interesting take?

However, Schwanitz is confident enough that Julian Lewis will fight for his spot and earn his starting gig. Why wouldn’t he? After all, he got the support of his biggest cheerleader, Deion.

We all know what Shedeur is to Coach Prime. Now that Lewis is going to replace the Buffs QB, who is NFL-bound, it’s likely that the comparison game will take over. If you think the Buffs HC is going to take Shedeur’s side, that’s not the case. Both of them are pass-dominant signal-callers and, more than that, share similar experiences.

Talking about Lewis, Coach Prime said, “Some of the similarities are unbelievable. That kid right there is everything that we desire in a quarterback. He’s smart; he can make every throw but most of all, he’s a winner.” Well, the praise games are not enough for Deion. He took some serious action to help Lewis out. In order to help the new joinee with early hands-on experience, he went to great lengths.

In a conversation with Romi Bean, he revealed, “We have most of our high school kids that we signed… They should all be here. And they should all participate in practice leading up to the bowl game. They can’t play in the bowl game but they can practice. I just called a commissioner of the league the other day because I want to see if they could dress. I just want them to be a part of it.”

Now as Julian Lewis comes off with a strong resume, Deion Sanders might have felt a greater urge to expose the young chap. Already carrying titles like “National Freshman of the Year” and “National Sophomore of the Year,” he’s shown he deserves the hype. Now let’s see how JuJu handles the heat of having Kaidon Salter around.
