4.27-second 40-yard dash. Yes, Deion Sanders’ feat from 1989 stood the test of time; So much so that the figure came back to haunt his son, Shilo, after his own showcase at Colorado’s Pro Day earlier this month, but more than that, Shilo couldn’t fathom that his pops, who is now 57, ever ran that fast. “We’ve seen Muhammad Ali box, but I haven’t seen you run a forty,” the son joked last month, stating he couldn’t find any tapes of his father’s performance. And that very statement opened the floodgates!

“I’ve seen a video of a man on the moon, but haven’t seen you run a forty.” These jokes from Shilo prompted ‘Coach Prime’ to set up a bet with his son: If Shilo ran the 40-yard dash within 4.4 seconds, Sanders would buy him a new car. A new luxury vehicle? Who could say no to that? So while the 25-year-old took up the challenge, fans were disappointed that the outcome wasn’t competitive enough. He clocked in at 4.52 on his first attempt and then 4.59 on the second one.

So we guess the car will have to wait. Regardless, the family is proud. “I don’t think he won the bet with dad, but we were proud of Shilo for what he went out there and did,” brother Shedeur said about Shilo days after his performance. But here’s the thing: Soon after Shilo’s performance, fans on social media noticed that some CU staff members were seen timing Shilo at 4.4, which could have made him eligible for the reward from Coach Sanders. In fact, mom Pilar took to her Instagram immediately and uploaded a reel which read: “Many people got Shilo at 4.45!!” But her support has not stopped here. In the newest update, she returned with some numbers to showcase her son’s best side. The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and the Sanders family is making as much noise as possible!

She shared a post from NFL Rookie, which read, “The Top 5 safeties in the 2025 NFL Draft (based on the most turnovers created).” And guess what? Shilo was at number 3 on the list, right behind Billy Bowman Jr. on No. 2 and Rayuan Lane III at the top of the list. The stats mentioned for Shilo were as follows:

Shilo Sanders (Jackson State, Colorado 2021-2024)

  • Interceptions (INT): 6
  • Forced Fumbles (FF): 7
  • Fumble Recoveries (FR): 2
  • Total Takeaways: 16

But it doesn’t look like Deion Sanders has gifted his son a new car. Regardless, the mother is making sure that the controversy doesn’t take away much from the fact that Shilo is a dependable talent. But the support doesn’t end here. Sister Shelomi is making his case too!

Shelomi joins mom in support of Shilo Sanders!

The Sanders family sticks with its people during testing times. Joining mother Pilar is sister Shelomi, who shared the same post on her Instagram story as well. She thought it important to share her brother’s achievements with the world. Shelomi was also in attendance at Colorado’s pro day, marking her support for Shilo.

Shilo and Shelomi share a bond as natural as that between any brother and sister. He took some playful digs at his sister, messing with her about her ball skills. He said in a video last month, “You’ve never beat me and you’re weak. You’re so weak, you’re the weakest Sanders.” Just afterwards, Shelomi showed who’s the boss after winning a challenge 8-3, with some extra shots just for insurance. The basketball star now plays for Alabama A&M.

The Sanders family will be a talking point as the draft nears, with Shedeur and Shilo clinging to their hopes. However, mom Pilar and sister Shelomi will never back down from providing an extra layer of support when needed. All that said and done, a lot of eyes will be on Deion Sanders as his sons, Shedeur and Shilo’s professional football future, depends on the Draft. Additionally, the coach also developed a father-son bond with Travis Hunter. And so, it will be interesting to see how he reacts to them getting drafted.

So far, ‘Prime Time’ has stated he will be happy regardless of where his sons get drafted. “I’m going to always be their dad, and that has more weight than being their coach. I’m excited not only for them, I’m excited for me, because now I don’t have to wear two hats,” he said earlier this month.
