Okay so, Ryan Day. $20 million on the line and arguably one of the most expensive rosters this year. If he had to go home without a ticket to the playoffs after all this hassle, then Buckeyes fans would swarm him with pitchforks. BUT. Ohio State is now on a massive 7-1 run with a direct entry into the playoffs and today’s game against the Boilermakers is gonna get Ryan Day one step closer to his goal. With 21-0 on the board, the Buckeyes are showing pure domination. And there’s also another plus side to this game. If you thought 17-year-old Ryan Williams from Bama was the only one carving his name as the best young WR, then you haven’t even met Jeremiah Smith.
Fox College Football took to X to share that the 18 y/o true freshman has broken a record for the Buckeyes. “Most Receiving touchdowns by an Ohio State true freshman,” Fox mentioned in their post. The guy who held the previous record was Cris Carter and now, with the 17-yard touchdown pass from Will Howard, Jeremiah Smith has cemented himself as the new Buckeyes legend. 8 games in and this dude has already managed to bring in over 670 yards under his belt along with 8 touchdowns. These aren’t bad stats for a freshman WR on that turf. Dude even managed to go toe-to-toe with arguably one of the best teams this season; the Ducks.

History for Jeremiah Smith 🔥🌰

Smith racked up 100 yards along with 1 touchdown and 9 receptions against Dan Lanning and Co. See, the biggest worry for Ohio State this year was securing a win against Penn State. HC James Franklin was on a massive run. The Nittany Lions came out of nowhere with their 7-win run with nothing on the board stopping them.
Day had to make this count and he did. The Buckeyes grabbed a 20-13 win over Franklin and Co. and this game alone managed to push the team to the committee’s top 25 ranking. Day and Co. are on the 2nd spot with seed 5, right behind the Ducks.
It cannot get any better than this. See, it’s Q3 and there is no way Purdue can make a comeback. With the Buckeyes nailing the passing yards with 145 and rush total yards with 210, the Boilermakers offense can barely do anything. This is a sure-shot win. However, the biggest challenge for Day is yet to come. If you thought Lanning gave these guys trouble then you have no idea what Indiana can do.

Buckeyes vs Hoosiers
Can you imagine that just last season, Indiana was on a 3-9 run? This team was worse than what Deion Sanders had. Curt Cignetti came in with one goal in his head and boy oh boy is he successfully achieving it. 9-0 going into the next showdown against the Wolverines, the Hoosiers are the new underdogs of the season.
See, a few days back, we pointed out that Cignetti has 2 pitfalls that he HAS to avoid if he wants to make it into the playoffs. The first one was the Huskies game. QB Kurtis Rourke had a nailbed injury going into this game but what was the outcome? Indiana moped the floor with the Huskies grabbing a massive 31-17 win.

The second pitfall was the Buckeyes. Day along with Chip Kelly’s playcalling is going to be one big hurdle for Cignetti. The Buckeyes have got a solid run game on that turf and the whole QB Will Howard and Jeremiah Smith paring is something you should look out for. While Cignetti has already proven his worth when he and his boys managed to grab a 56-7 win over the Huskers, will it be enough to win over Day? It will all boil down to who has the better defense and offense and from what we have seen so far, Hoosiers do have the upperhand.
