The new season has almost begun, and we’ve already seen our first shock. After so many modifications to the roster and a sense of redemption to prove they needed to be included in last year’s playoff, Mike Norvell had a lot of expectations on his shoulders. Unfortunately, a loss against Georgia Tech yesterday dashed down all those hopes.
The Florida State Seminoles took on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets yesterday for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland. Since this was the first game of the season, the general expectation was that Florida would have an easy victory, but they unfortunately suffered a shocking loss by a score of 24-21. The Seminoles were the deserved contenders for the top-4 playoff spot last season but after yesterday’s performance; it doesn’t look plausible that they’ll make it to that spot this year. What’s important to note is that this was just the season opener and that FSU will have more chances to produce better outcomes as time unfolds.
Florida isn’t out of the race just yet!

As per Pickell, FSU could lose 2 more games to Florida and Notre Dame, but they could still make the playoffs, and here’s how. He said, “ If they win all their games in the ACC and they go in the ACC title, I think they will be in the college football playoff. I think if they win out in ACC playoff should feel pretty good about making the ACC title.” Additionally, the mere fact that they’re not in “the BCS era” from 2007 assures that they have a better chance of securing their spot this season. At the moment, FSU fans are fuming with Norvell, and here’s what the HC had to say about the dramatic loss to Georgia.

Georgia Yellow Jackers ended the 2023 season with a 7-6 overall record and now, they’re at the top of the table by defeating the ACC champions in their first-ever overseas showdown. The game was a close one and both teams were tied with a score of 14-14 at halftime. Thankfully, the new rules of the Playoff assure Florida that their dreams of making it to the top spot aren’t shattered, but Norvell and his team will have to step up their game to make sure they aren’t routed so easily.
During his post-game speech, Norvell gave all the props to Georgia and said, “Give credit to Georgia Tech, hard-fought game.” The coach was disappointed with the players’ mentality but believes it’s all about the response now and added, “For our football team, it’s all about our response from here. You come, you work, you want to start the season off a certain way and we came up short of that tonight.” Thus, this season looks to be a rollercoaster ride with one of the biggest upsets becoming a spectacle so early on.
